Waxing a fiberglass boat below the waterline?

I usually do, although not on the boats I have now. I couldn't tell a difference in speed on my old boats that I waxed below th e water line. Hotspot is correct though it can slow you down. I raced sail boats for many years and we actually pulled the boat and rough sanded the bottom before cup races. The sanded bottom produced tiny air bubbles that aided in speed. This was very important since fractions of a second count when racing.

Been wondering the same thing. Sounds like the below-waterline-waxers have it. Hard to imagine how it could slow you down much, if at all.

Well, i have been racing all my youth international sailing dinghies regattas, and for sure we were all waxing as often as we could to keep it smooth and fast. We may have all been wrong :504_shrugging:
