  1. I don't know about the app, but I do know that the Iphone is hydrophobic. Get one drop of rain or spray down the little hole in the top of the phone and it's toast. The first thing the techs at the Apple Store do when you bring and Iphone in for repair or replacement is inspect the phone for water intrusion. If you get it wet they will not replace the phone. If you use one on the boat, put it in a plastic baggie.
  2. Just so you are aware, Pursuits have foam flotation. I doubt that "straight to the bottom" is an option. That being said, enjoy boat hunting.
  3. I have to ask. What features are "family friendly" in a CC? Don't overlook Pursuit boats. I've been very happy with mine. http://www.pursuitboats.com/C250.htm
  4. Hmmmm..... A 200K boat and no EPERB. I don't mean to be hyper critical, but it is a "teaching moment" for those that do not own an EPERB. Don't forget to register your EPERB and give a friend or family member the phone number for the USCG as well as your float plan with your ETA.
  5. Sweet ride! Have Wiley do a vid at 100mph
  6. They could not get this through Congress, so they used a Presidential Order. The good news is that a Presidential Order can be undone. Remember to undo our President in 2012.
  7. Enjoy the trip. Slide on down to St Augustine if you can. It's an interesting historical city. The family would like it.
  8. Here's a very educational pictorial about boat valves. valves
  9. Be vary careful choosing a cleaner for your screens. The older screens (before the new touch screens) have the anti glare coating on the outer surface of the glass. Use a cleaner designed for lens cleaning, or distilled water. Any thing abrasive or containing amonia will harm the coating on the glass. I was aware of this and wanted to protect my new (at that time) Raymarine screen, so I bought a plastic application that covers the glass called Nav Protector. That was an expensive mistake for me. The film was on the machine for about 18 months before I took it off. Unfortunately the film and the glass coating bonded some how and made a mess of my screen. Ultimately, I had to return the unit to Raymarine for a glass replacement.
  10. It's not your machine, it's the conversion from Loran to GPS coordinates. Many of the wrecks were logged in using Loran coordinates. When GPS became the standard they converted those Loran numbers to Lat Lon for use on GPS machines. You could be a 1/4 mile off using the chart numbers. We have to either find a buddy with the actual Lat and Lon numbers, or go and search. Do some research about the wrecks n you area and pick the biggest, newest one in your area. Older wrecks can have nothing but the boiler left standing, so they can be difficult to find. Smaller wrecks in shallow water can get covered by sand due to storms. So find a big newer wreck to hunt. Go to the chart numbers and then do a search using a grid approach. Have your track on so you can see where you have looked.
  11. I used to store one of my boats at a yard that had no electric. I used a panel to keep my batteries charged while the boat was stored. If you want a panel to have the ability to charge your batteries, you will need a panel that produces anywhere from 20 to 30 watts. You will also have to buy a controller for the panel to prevent over charging. West Marine has a 15watt panel with a 7 amp controller that will keep your batteries topped off, but it's not strong enough to bring a discharged battery back to life. We'd need to know the size of your battery bank (amp hours?) to know what you might need. Also, do you plan on running offshore with a panel attached to your boat? The glass enclosed panels are a bit fragile, but they do make flexible panels. Finally how much do you want to spend. You can get away with less than $250 for a system that will charge batteries wile the boat is stored. If your intention is to run your accessories off the solar panels while you are off shore, then we are talking about some bigger dollars. You will need to devote lots of space to do that. Do you have a hard top?
  12. Does that Lowrance unit give you depth at the speeds you normally travel? Upgrading will improve the detail and graphics, but it will not look forward and forward looking sonar is very expensive.
  13. Might try to get out Monday when our rain chance goes from 80% down to 50% The fireworks will be soggy this weekend.
  14. Another Pri-G vote. I use it all the time. When you read the directions on the Pri-G site they say add the Pri_G first, then the gas. That way it gets mixed well. I'd try adding enough to cover your old left over gas plus the fresh gas you plan on adding before you add the fresh gas.
  15. I stop at three or four forums every morning. RB is one of my normal stops. I occasionally post here when I can add to the conversation. In this case I am doing this post just to add to new content. This forum needs some action. My favorite forum is a fishing site devoted specifically to my area of Central Florida (No it's not the Florida Sportsman Forum). I stop there 3 or 4 times a day to connect with fishermen and women that I know and fish with out of Port Canaveral and Ponce Inlet. They post their fishing successes and failures each time they go out.
  16. If the new bulb does not solve the gas issue, check the spin on gas filter and the little gas filter on the motor. If that does not work, run the motor from a small external tank. That will tell you if you have a problem associated with the boat's tank, like a restriction in the vent. Can't help you with the oil warning. I have Yamahas. The Yam alarm sounds each time you start. Some Johnson expert will chime in on this one.
  17. Any of the Marine oils will do the job. They have additives designed for motors that live in the marine environment. Stay away from oil you would put in your car.
  18. Awesome! Enjoy your new adventure. I like the boat you picked out. It seems to fit most of your boating needs. If you go after dolphin make it on a very calm day. That hull design will shake you up if it get rough.
  19. There are many shops specializing in installing electronics and doing electrical work here in Florida. Most have a local shop. They aer licensed and many have manufacturers certification. One of my tech friends also does installation of home and commercial stand by generators, as well as electrical work on motor homes. He does on board work, but he has a shop where he does repairs. It's more comfortable to do repairs in an air conditioned room than it is in the field.
  20. Very nice installation and great pics with graphics. Thanks! I was wondering why you replaced the Icom. Does the new radio have more functions?
  21. I put new Yokohama Geolander HT-S on my Chevy D-Max 2500 a couple of years ago. They are a nice quiet ride and I am happy with the way the tires ware. I do rotate them every 5K. They grip nicely on the ramp. Normally I do not need to use 4 wheel drive.
