Penn Intl. 80

Recommended Posts

i have a penn intl 80 (gold one) and have a 25' cc, i doubt i have much use for a reel this size for the fishing i'll be doing, UNLESS its a good option for converting into a kite rod, downrigger, etc... which i do not currently have. just wondering what some of your thoughts were on it. my other option was to sell it or try and trade it in..

The value of that 80 is around $500. That could get you at least four TLD 25's which I feel are one of the best all around 30 - 50 # reels for the money. Now if you are thinking of donating it to a good cause...it just might be something I am interested in!! :D

If you ever contemplate deep dropping or daytime swordfishing, then it makes an awesome conversion to electric....... spooled with 130 braid and mounted on a 130# bent butt rod. LMR or LP directly can handle the conversion.

It would make a good eletcric reel! or put it on a short rod and use it for your dredge.

I just sold on Ebay a Penn Intl 80 that I bought new in '83 and never had line spooled on it, I got $435 plus shipping. The Buyer is going to create a piece of art using an 80, 50, 30 & 16. He promised me a photo when it's finished. I'll post it here when it arrives.

Those huge Penns have limited use these days. With the arrival of small diameter Spectra line they aren't necessary. I just sold on Ebay an Intl 80 that was unused and in it's box, I got $435 for it.
