  1. We fish out of Sea Bright. We have been doing good on stripers and fluke. This weekend my son informs me the boat is tied up because it's the "girlfriends" birthday. Wait, who paid for the boat, trailer, slip etc. Good thing I like the 'girlfriend" or I'd blow skyhigh.
  2. Unfortunatly the resale $$ on Fiat/Chrysler products will drop loke a rock. The day you drive out of the showroom, figure 30 to 40% depreciation in my opinion. Only buy for the long haul.
  3. I have Direct TV. The rain fade can last up to a half hour and sometimes longer depending on the storm. It happens during snow also. That said I get all the Florida fishing channels, great NFL coverage and very good HD. Thier customer service is via internet and they wanted to charge me $15 to talk to a real person. All in all beats Comcast cold. I developed a "hate" for CC customer service. A friend of mine does income tax. He said if you could see what Comcast pays thier employees you would know why the service is so poor. In my opinion you won't be sorry going with DVT, but give ATT-Uvere a look and post your results.
  4. Good olde Captain Keith. All the money he made during the king crab season looks like it will be lost during the opie season. He put a real hurt on his crew and he knows it. Those guys may be out for the season. Mother Nature has no mercy.
  5. Have a LX and use it for everything from striped bass to jigging for bluefin. It's my favorite reel out of around 10 owned.
  6. Bly.......we know each other from the BBsite. My son left with the boat early this am. Let me know if you are down this week too, maybe we can hookup, especially if the wind dies down and a run off-shore is in the cards.
  7. Mark....Thanks for the comeback. We hadn't thought of going up to Oregen Inlet but it sounds like a great idea. 30 miles out isn't a problem. Wish us luck.
  8. We used a scraper and blow dryer. It was not fun. There will be "ghosting" where the lettering was. Compound, wax, etc all you want but 6 years later you can still tell where the lettering was. It goes down a little each year so don't expect miricles. It still looks better than the goofy stripes.
  9. I use Collinite wax on my rods. Do you think Woody Wax is better? Non-slip maybe?
  10. Guys, we are towing a 25' CC to Hatteras next week for a week of fishing; in shore and some off shore depending on the weather. We rented a house in Frisco about 5 miles from the inlet with a slip. Any ideas, suggestions, secret spots, what is hitting, etc will be apprechiated. We have rader, gps, epirb and all the safety gear plus 50 w's and the usual Avets and Dawia gear. Just looking for some local knowledge so any suggestions are apprechiated. This is our 5th trip to Hatteras but 1st with our boat so we know the area.
  11. Flowscans are about $250 and easy to install.
  12. I put it in the old Jeep ,5 gallons at a time. The Jeep loves it.
  13. I keep the portable VHF charged and shut off in the ditch bag but also keep a full battery pack in the ditch bag also.
  14. Since we are heading to Hatteras for a week we picked up a new Mc Murdo EPRIB last week. Just hope we don't have to use it.
  15. If it's not a Bert 31 I'll be disappointed! Best of luck with the project.
  16. I took the Coast Guard Aux course; 7 week, 3 hrs a week and scored a 96%. One of the bouys messed me up. It was a good course taught by some dedicated guys. Some of the people attending were just "clueless". One guy thought if he was anchored in the channel fishing, the oil tanker had to go around him.
  17. We have the same situation, 25 cc and Penn 80. All we can think of for the few occasions when we might use it is pick up a real good harness and spend more time at the gym.
  18. In New Jersey it's 88 degrees all weekend. We are in the water, stripers in Raritan Bay and maybe run off shore for some blackfish. If the bluefish show up there will be a lot of fun. I'm feeling reel sick for Monday. May have to take the day off.
  19. The cod boat thing really hit you. 11 on board, no survivors, 38 degree water, oh and it took the Coast Guard 9 hours to reach them.
  20. Probably end up as a restaurant somewhere; "cocktails in the crowsnest".
  21. Okuma did the same for me on a reel. When I received the "repaired reel" it had no scratches or nicks; brand new reel. It's probably cheaper to do it that way and the PR is priceless.
  22. A hairdryer and scraper work. Be carefull with the gelcoat. I'm told Easyoff Oven Cleaner is very good but haven't tried it. You will have "ghosting" where the decal was removed. Compound, restorer amd wax will help but be aware you won't get a match. The rest of the hull has faded; the areas which were covered by the decal are closer to the origional color. It will take years for a match so don't worry about it.
  23. I always wondered how much they get payed for having the film crews on board and how much gets passed on to the crew.
  24. Sword! That will get all the guys up north cranked up. Maybe a early season, were due.
