Blue Whale Photos

Earlier this month I was returning after a day of fishing to my home port, Loreto, Baja California, on the Sea of Cortez, and came across this blue whale headed out as I was headed in. This is my first post on this forum. Let's see if I can make it work.

How big do you suppose it was? It's hard to tell from the pictures.

Dave.....It's hard to say. It was an adult, traveling alone and blue whales are the biggest whales, so it was a big animal. It was calm when I spotted it from some distance cruising on the top. When I approached it sounded.

Just a tidbit of information.

I receintly saw an episode of "Blue Planet" which had a segment on Blue Whales in which they mentioned that they are the largest anamal that has EVER been on the planet, including dinosaurs, can travel at 20 knots, that their hearts are as big as some cars and GET THIS, some of the veins that run through the body (my guess is the Aorta) are large enough for a human to slip through!!!

Wikipedia tells me they can exceed 100'. Absolutely astounding. Did the hair on the back of your neck stand up?
