Nantucket Lightship

Recommended Posts

One of her sister lightships, the Chesapeake, has been a tourist attraction in Baltimore Harbor, close to the National Aquarium, for many years. She is actually owned by the National Park Service, is designated as a National Historic Landmark, and is on 25 year loan to the Baltimore Maritime Museum. She is open for public tours (admission fee applies). I toured her about 15 years ago; very informative!

Hate to see historic beauties like these end up in the scrapyard.

Are they auctioning her off or just taking silent bids? I would be interested to see what she goes for.

There are strings attached. They want it to be used as a museum or educational facility. Plus you have to show that you have the money to restore it.

Sort of like when the govt sells off a lighthouse.
