Atlanta Saltwater Fishing

Recommended Posts

Thought that we should try a seperate topic for the saltwater guys based in Atlanta. There was always a lot of chat on the Lake Lanier threads about saltwater and other boating opportunities in and around Atlanta. For those doing a search, they might have to stumble onto the Lanier topic.

Atlanta is a great location for a saltwater fisherman / boater. From Atlant you can easily access the gulf, Florida, Georgia coast, and the Carolinas. I am not a member but the Atlanta Saltwater Fishing club is a very active group that holds meetings in Atlanta and fishing events over the SE. Hopefully one of the members will chime in and give more detail.

I do not get to fish as much saltwater as I would like but I do trailer my boat around some to saltwater. I plan to check both this thread (if it gets legs) and the Lanier thread.

Saltwater fishing is a complicated and demanding sport, especially when it is undertaken on a do-it-yourself basis. Most people who participate in this activity do so as a result of growing up in a coastal community where fishing is a tradition.Atlanta is 277 miles from the nearest body of saltwater – and can hardly be classified as a coastal community. In the past, learning about saltwater fishing involved a lot of reading, asking questions, and a lot of painful trial & error. Under these conditions, it can take years for someone to become proficient enough at the sport to really achieve a sense of enjoyment and satisfaction.

Gabriel,

Atlanta actually boasts a large number of saltwater fishing folks. Not only are we closer than you think to a wide vaiety of saltwater, Atlanta is the home to transplants from all over. Not to mention pretty good access to fishing the world from our airport.

Atlanta used to have the largest skiing club in the US and we are not exactly covered with snow either.

Sorry this thread didn't take off more. Everybody must be out fishing.
