I saw the water pump thread a few months ago and am getting ready to replace mine for the 1st time. One of the most imformative threads I've seen. And Andy at Shipyard Island was very helpfull. Thanks!!!! Can't wait for your new threads.........

I just got finished last night changing out the water pump on my Yamaha F250 and found the instruction thread very helpful even thought the 250 is a little different. I ended up also changing out the water pump housing, lower unit gear oil, oil change, and spark plug change. Again, the F250 is a bit different than the F200 but Hotspots thread was a great place to start. With all the parts included I spent about $250 to do all this work which was a great savings over taking it to the shop. The question I have is for the F250 if you use a vacum pump, does it suck more of the oil out of the oil filter because that was the only thing that was difficult (and messy).

No sir, it does not. Use the zip lock bag trick, it works well, and have a roll of those blue shop towels handy.

If I repower, it will be a F250, then I will have to make all new maintenance tips!!

Ps. I thought that the impeller you show looked pretty good. How often do you replace your water pump and impeller?

I replace it every year. The area I boat in is gritty and shallow. Most times, the impeller has fine cracks in the fins.

Wow! What a great resource! Makes me wish I had a 200/225. I'm hoping some of this is transferable to an F150. I agree about the pix by the way . . . so much easier to follow as you are doing the work.
