The approximate life span of a house fly is 15 to 30 days. What's to say this fly wasn't already on his 29th day and set to die anyway?

The House Fly is often a carrier of diseases, such as typhoid fever, cholera, dysentery, and anthrax. Obama may have saved some lives with that swat.

The Housefly is a boon to the space travelers future.

By messing with its genetics, the DNA, they were able to make a house fly last about a week.

Great, what this means to space travelers going to places that are light years away is that we can re-engineer a human so he'll live 30 times his normal life span.

After all what would be the benefit of sending a human on a journey that will last longer than his life span?
