Hot Air + Cold River = Fog

Recommended Posts

Hmmmm Never heard of fog caused that way? Usually Evaporation from the surface of the warm water easily saturates the cold air, causing fog. Then again I am usually the one who misses the joke or satire....or..

Maybe there are different rules of physics in the Big Easy :504_shrugging:

Advection Fog

Advection fog often looks like radiation fog and is also the result of condensation. However, the condensation in this case is caused not by a reduction in surface temperature, but rather by the horizontal movement of warm moist air over a cold surface.

Makes sense to me. I can now see how that could happen too! We mostly get the traditional stuff over water , but I have seen this other stuff - especially in the winter with a snow cover and sudden warm air......

Thanks - never too old to learn!
