  1. From the looks of his screen name I'd guess he's in some other Nordic country. The water is probably much deeper and the current stronger than here, plus who knows what kind of a pot it is, can you sat Dungeoness crab pot a la Deadliest Catch!
  2. I used acetone to clean the rubrail of my Contender, just use a rag you're willing to throw away and wear a respirator unless you like killing brain cells. Keep the rag wet and clean and you should be to solid black in no time.
  3. Still not sure why that boat didn't turn out looking like a tuna, though. I guess the lines were all wrong I'd Like one Short sleeve x Large and a long sleeve same size, whenever they are ready,,,, and Thanks to the Admins for getting me back on the site... Capt Bud See Ya Outdoors!
  4. Landlubbers! or " What the Others are Talking about" Hard to believe anyone would spend much time here , Not talking about boats. Seems like they be somewhere else. Capt Bud
  5. Reel Dawg, what was the review course you took for? Did you have to take the Captains test again? what about the drug test for the renewal, did you have to pay to have it done again. I ask because I will have to renew next year. From what I read lately, the whole process has been moved to a new facility in West Virginia, or Virginia. Sorry to all if I said the TWIC had to be laminated,,,, I meant the 8.5 x 11 catains license. I did read that they had gone to the passport style ID , Great Idea Glad to hear you got yours so quickly. Tight Lines to all! Capt Bud Wegner
  6. Okay, I'll bite. I went to the school out of Edenton NC They come to Raleigh, NC every April and hold the class in a motel conference room. The teachers are all licensed merchant mariners and the overall class was enlightening. I've been on boats most of my life, but the acutal rules of the road and the rules for interaction with large vessels was informative. you also have to have first aid and cpr certification. Day 8 was the test and the material was taught in such a way as to be repetetive enough that you nearly memorize the information. I think I missed one question on the test. The real fun/hairpulling came when trying to put the information together. I had a physical but the doctor didn't know what was wanted from the eye exam part of the paperwork, so the day I showed up in Charleston to turn in my paperwork, I ended up going down the street to an optomitrist to fulfill tat part of the exam. Then we have electronic finger prints, back ground check, experience log. don't forget the independent piss test. birth certificate, and now you will have to get the TWIC Card. I saw a blog the other day that said the wait for a new one could be 4 months.. and then you get this 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper with an imprinted seal on it, that CANNOT BE LAMINATED!!!! So how do you keep that dry on a 20' center console? Afterall the crap is said and done, I have it and will have to do who knows what to get it renewed in a mere 2years. Hope that gives you an idea of what t o expect. Capt Bud
  7. What holds the lid on and where does it go when you open it? Don't see it at all in the pic with the top open. Is it truly round and what are the square doors on the side for tackle storage or access to the plumbing? Thanks, Capt Bud W
  8. Once you figure out where your sweet spot in the water is with the trailer, take a piece of reflective tape and mark the upright post with it, using the bottom edge of the tape at the water's edge. Then in the future back to the tape and roll the boat on clip the winch cable and move out of the way,,, you're done.
  9. Prop, Beautiful boat.. does Fountain leave room in the console for a head? I need a boat to take four to the gulfstream from the coast of central NC about 40 miles each way, and I have a few female clients that demand a head onboard, ( including my wife whose got the purse string approval pen. My goal is 4 people at $1000.00 a day for a trip to the stream, mano- a - mano! Is this the rocket for me? Thanks, Capt Bud Wegner seeyaoutdoors.com
  10. Here in NC they actually migrate inshore to spawn, so we see great numbers in late May early June, but I have caught them blind slow trolling pogies between Artificial reefs and have thrown metal lures at them as they swim by the boat. Just three weeks ago I moved my spread to a fresh reef and looked behind the boat, and something caught my eye, right in the prop,, I don't mean the propwash I mean this cobia was running right up to the prop and then swimming back about three feet before making another lunge toward the prop,, even though I know he was close to the minimum,, 33" in NC I hooked a live pogey on a kingfish rig tossed it into the wash, and BOOM! I was on,, I got him to the boat and before I could lip gaff him , he shook his head and snapped the line., We have guys that will from time to time , free gaff them as they swim by,,,,, better have a good size cockpit or an open cooler,, otherwise all HeII breaks loose.
