  1. Why does your mechanic think the motors are now scrap?? be pretty rare for that to be the case considering the hours you do per year?
  2. I am not too sure he has the exhaust issue, he does not say what HP it is, the oil leak problem should not happen again if the sleeve was fitted as you said, we need a bit more info I think.
  3. There is a few products on the market that will "help" with smaller amounts of water in tanks, but you will need to near drain the tank first, make up a syphon hose with some sort of weight on the end, this will go to the bottom of the tank and may draw the water off first (I have had some success this way) syphon into a container that you can let the fuel settle in and see how much water you get out, after you have removed all the fuel and water, then look for "magic" products that will disolve water, do not fall for the old wives tale of pouring Methylated Spirits into the tank, it will not work.
  4. I know a guy that did some research before buying one and reckoned it was a high strung small motor, so he went for another brand, now that does not help you, but do some home work and see what you find, there may be a reason there is not many around!
  5. the max RPM is dictated by the prop and the motor setup, now as a starter, have you got a genuine manual for this motor? if not, buy one now, redo ALL the carbs, not just 1, buy complete kits and fit and adjust as per the manual, you may need to do some spark testing when the motor has failed. Do a compression test yourself, do not trust the sellers numbers, unless you were there and read the gauge yourself, remove the plugs and have a look at them, are they all the same? this could indicate which cylinders are not firing and why.
  6. you need to do some very basic troubleshooting first, do you have a genuine manual for your motor? if not, buy one, now, remove the spark plugs, do they all look the same? do a compression test while they are out, replace the spark plugs anyway, they are cheap, do you have a good fuel filter installed? if not, do it now, you can clean your carbs in the morning, hook them up to a dirty tank, and you will clean them again after lunch! can you run from a complete remote tank and fresh fuel and hose? do these simple things first and get back to us.
  7. back to the first post, I still cannot get the THT to load (not that I miss it much) I doubt it has anything to do with routers and IP numbers.
  8. correct, the chance of actually wearing out an outboard is almost nil, they will fail becuase of some other problem first, like a dead water pump, or an oil system failure, after that, salt water will kill them all, true, diesels are not for the high speed spend half your life in the air boaters, but on smaller boats, they are great, on bigger boats, go diesel and be happy, if you get diesels big enough, you will certainly get all the speed you want.
  9. so, the trim is completly dead, both up and down? in that case I would be looking at some sort of fuse or relay, it should be pretty easy to trace the wires from the pump motor aong untill they reach some sort of connector or fuse system.
  10. need just a bit more info, as in, does it make any noise? a click, the motor running? does it still trim down?
  11. I have had enough big outboards and diesels to know that when you are getting up towards 35' outboards are NOT the choice of power, and while we are on the subject, what do you know about big outboards/boats?, just asking!
  12. even though it is common practice, I think outboards on big boats are a waste of time, sure it may be cheaper than a couple of diesels, but not when you have to replace them a couple of times.
  13. I would think the load in the boat and the conditions just dictated how fast you could go, another prop will do nothing to fix that! The boat goes fine when it is nice weather.
