  1. a member here owns a Ben and Jerrys......i'll check it out.
  2. i think there were some examples of "walking the dog" in the Shimano videos. essentially, see how i am holding the reel in my left hand in the above pic.......that's the grip, that is where you hold onto the rod until hook up.....you are actually holding the left side of the reel. the butt end of the rod is tucked into the left arm pit and the reel is held relatively close to the chest. both the hand holding the reel and the hand doing the winding are moving in unison resulting in very short strokes of the rod tip. when you get it right it is a nearly effortless motion and it drives the fish nuts. it does take some practice, but once you got it it is like riding a bike.....automatic. good luck.
  3. Thanks for holding those two fish I caught. Larry.......Thanks for starting this thread for the west central fishermen. Lets see how many people we have over here.? You should tell people about 2 upcoming organized overnight MG trips coming up in June and July.......it is going to be a blast just like last year.
  4. i can't imagine what E85 would do to marine engines and fuel systems. Central Marine here in St Pete is the largest certified Yamaha dealer/service center in this area. According to the service guys there, they are getting a lot of early power head failures that have been attributed to ethanol. They appreciate the warranty work........but they said it is just a shame what ethanol is doing to marine systems. The fuel samples they take from the tanks of these boats with power head failures is scarry. Regardless of the economic impact, it is just a matter of time before someone is injured killed at sea due to engine failure.
  5. Since Rich told 2 stories.....so will I. we are having a really slow day offshore. my fishing buddy catches the biggest grouper he's ever caught in his life and is completely jazzed. as the Capt i decide to throw the beast in the kill box. 20 minutes later we decide that we are going to move to a different spot. before the move, i pull his grouper out of the kill box to gut it before it goes into the cooler. i gut it with with no issues or movement from the fish. there is a great deal of blood and entrails on the fish so i decided to grab the fish by the eyeballs with one hand and by the exposed body cavity with the other hand, and dip the fish into the water to clean him up a bit. every thing is fine as i lift the fish out of the water. then as the fish is at eye level and about to dropped in the cooler.......he convulses in a mighty way and his tail slaps me in the face/eye like a punch from Mike Tyson. knocked my sunglasses off and gave me a black eye. and as you have already guessed.....the fish went overboard. none of this witnessed by my buddy who subsequently asks "Where is my awesome fish, lets take a picture" you wouldn't want to be me at that moment.........."you did what?"
  6. yes sir it will! if it is not too bad you can clean it up/smooth out imperfections with some 2000 wet/dry sandpaper. if you can't get it perfectly smooth don't risk damaging the new seals......or back to square one.
  7. Get involved and let your reps know what you think. Otherwise suffer the consequences. FL is a unique boating environment and due to the moisture/humidity as well as rainfall, is particularly NOT well suited for ethanol fuels. FH has been privy to my posts elsewhere..........but in case you don't know, a friend of mine who manages a local ethanol-free BP station says straight gas will no longer be available to order from the distributor within the next 30 days.
  8. in case you missed it........there is a caveat for "Airplanes" and "Boats". now the question is, how will this play out? will trailer boaters be forced to visit a marina for straight gas, or will there be regular gas stations that can order and dispense straight gas? it gets pretty sticky unless people start to sound off. FWIW i have been fortunate enough to have access to straight gas and have only run this in my boat. 2 days ago i just spent $2900 for the YES Yamaha extended warranty solely due the risk of what ethanol fuels WILL do to my engine/fuel system when we are finally force fed this garbage in 2010.
  9. This just in. in case there WAS ANY DOUBT. :2261_high: http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/event...ume_1_no_1.aspx
  10. This tip refers to a Yamaha 2006 F250. It may or may not be applicable to your motor. when ever you're cruising along and start to lose your speed indication on your Yamaha "Speed" or "Speed/Fuel" combo gauge, this likely means you are starting to get a clogged pitot tube on the leading edge of the motor foot. the pitot tube is where water pressure is sensed which is created by fwd motion thru the water, and is then sent to a sensor which then relays the info ultimately to the guage. usually this is an easy fix. if on the water, you can stop the boat and use reverse to clear the pitot tube. if this doesn't work, then when out of the water, insert a 1/16 drill bit into the pitot tube.......rotate the bit in your fingers CW as you insert it........CW rotation helps to dislodge debris. sometimes the debris has travelled beyond the entry point of the pitot tube and cannot be reached with the drill bit. in this case, you need to remove the engine cover and locate where the rubber tubing (that connects to the pitot tube) connects to the sensor on the back of the engine. remove the rubber hose and use compressed (of your choosing) to blow out the debris until it exits the pitot tube on the motor foot. reconnect the rubber hose to the sensor......you're done. see attached photos. blue tape on the drill bit shows how far the bit can be inserted. tape on the back of the motor is the rubber hose to disconnect and blow out.
  11. it is a sideways thing. my boat is actually 31.5 ft if you are paying for a marina slip, so, fishing off Jupiter you crank the engine hardover for a sideways drift so your spread covers a larger area. kites and/or balloons get deployed off the pulpit. don't use the pulpit holders for anything fishing off the left coast.
  12. PH is the coolest place on the boat, believe it or not. Had the same hull in a CC with a fiberglass T-top and the PH beats it. the reason is the reduction in reflected UV. check out the video of my boat in the videos forum.......that is 90 degrees in August, and you'll notice that my 2 yo is sleeping comfortably up front (that or she passed out....just kidding). jim
  13. PREVAIL sprayer. you are right......great for small jobs. Home Depot $4.50........ West Marine about twice that much. Another trick you can do with a Prevail to simulate "sprayed on" nonskid (at least for a Parker) is to shoot the gelcoat unthinned. The thicker it is the more aggressive the texture will be. If it is too thick, then it will not spray at all. in this shot i actually moved the windlass off the pulpit, repaired the 3 inch hole and retextured......all with a Prevail. jim
  14. Osprey.....we're all going a little nuts.....i think it is part of the package. I never really posted much on THT and I am well known by another screen name so i switched over. better earlier than later.....sorry for the confusion. Wanted to depart THT and start here with the original THT screen name so every one would know it was me. King......a plastic livewell? hmmm, i don't know. never tried it. if you are talking about the portables like Kodiak, i am guessing, but there are spray paints specifically designed for plastics. also a question was asked earlier about rinsing real well after coating. Heck yeah, I ran the well (minus the livies) for a couple of days just cruising w/family prior to fishing. also gave it a light wet sanding w/1000. no dead soldiers subsequently. jim
  15. Sal.....great boat, a real classic hull. enjoy!
  16. Just an FYI.....changes to my boat name which i use on CapMel. You guys/girls deserve way more. (BTW great emoticon)
  17. hey.....thanks for the compliments. just to be clear it is gelcoat not PAINT. unless i missed it, i guess there is no way to edit the title if you need to fix a typo.
  18. hah!....glad someone found it funny......but would still like to know how to edit a title line.
  19. have to agree also with the comments about MOD4. i grew up in an era where a certain word was not considered derogatory and used the term in a one liner with a smiley face in a response to the thread about AMMO sales. the term was deleted and i got a polite and professional PM to which i responded and subsequently had a great dialogue with him. would be a good MOD for this site.
  20. now that you mention it......i forked over a few clams for that thing and it was rendered useless by someone with an erection for someone he thought was a jerk. No matter........if i can afford boating i can write off a wheel. but, WHAT IF...........a certain website offered (for a limited time only ) to honor the privileges represented by said wheel from that other site.
  21. worth its weight in gold. don't worry about the holes. have never heard of anyone having an issue. some guys even use the tab as a step to get in the boat......seriously. jim
  22. Congrats on making it half way. just turned Five Oh myself........to be honest.......i now hate b-days.
