  1. Size matters but.... What do you want the boat to do for you should be the first list you start? Then where will you use her? Where are you going to keep it (in-water or trailer)? Is is a fishing boat or go fast? Sleep-over or open cockpit? Inboard(s) or Outboard(s) ? Just the first thing that popped into my mind.
  2. Heres a Pic of my 1969 ORIGINAL ROBALO R190. I am doing a makeover on her now and will be installing my 7 power source on her. She has served us well and we are on our 4 generations of anglers. As seen in a pic with PoPs running the river in her a few years ago.
  3. HMMMM I wonder which brand I would say...... With me though it would be what year and how much do you want to to a used one.

  6. The site is down but a few of us are working on getting it back up. I will post any updates on here as I get them. Thank You for your Patience.
  7. Go to the http://www.robaloboatowners.com/forum/ I can answer your questions there as I can cut and paste the answers(as I have answered them before). Yes there were some issues with them but all boats have there faults but they have been cruising the waters for 40 years? We had to do something right. Sorry if I stepped on toes on this board but I don't type fast but I cut and paste goo. LOL
  8. I was also thinking of a system with a remote RF Remote with display. I installed a alpine system on a friends boat and it worked fairly good but his didn't have the display and he wanted the receiver in the cabin. Just don't know if the led display holds up as he kept the remote in the radio box and it was having problems in a year. It was a standard system and not marine. Man you guys are giving me some neat ideas On the speakers if I were to put them on the vertical part of the casting platform would it be loud and clear there running or distorted. I have a set of 3 rod holders on each side and could mount the speakers behind them but would have to be flush with the deck and I would make 1/8 inch aluminum cover plates? just a thought.. Yes on the vision. I am short but it would be in the way if I go more than 10 inches below the T-Top cross member. Keep them coming.
  9. I use to tweek the the steering (toe-in&out) on the boats I had to run a lot. Not hard just a lil time consuming. I put tape on the rod to mark the beginning spot and work my way through the tweeking. This way if it didn't get better I could always go back to start. I would start toe-in.
  10. Heres how I have been doing it for years. Hope it helps you just need a good fuel pump . I use a high volume explosion proof electric fuel pump (omc primer pump) and run the fuel through a waterseporator. I usually run the tank almost empty and just keep pouring the 5 gal back in at least 4 times checking the filter each time. I do this every 2 years and you wouldn't believe the crap that you pick up. Install a new filter and your ready for the new motor.
  11. A lot of food for thoight. What about the speakers they put on Wakeboarding boats? Not the monster ones just a smaller one that has speakers on both ens of the tube. Just thought of the ease of instaling under the T Top, Heres a idea what it looks like . It is all S/S and no radio box (YET) and only 1.5 inch thick but rock solid. I can run some wires through the uprights so my thought was to install a stereo box up under her and go from there????
  12. I agree. The one on my ROBALO has been flawless for 20 years and even took it off and it is on my pontoon now. The one on my Twinn Vee I have been replaced seals twice, then the whole helm and the seals once in the replacement helm and it is just 5 yrs old. Go figure.
  13. The tread about the I pod got me thinking about how to do mine when I redo the old girl again. I don't need a extreme setup just want some heads up on what can be done with a lil thought and a way to protect it. I am think also about speakers (types/size/amount) and where to install them. I want to hear it cruising but I don't need to rock the sandbar myself. As many of you know small center consoles that venture out get wet in places you would never imagine (or young grandson helping PoP PoP wash the boat) so thats in the back of my mind. The boat will have a console cover while on the lift but that is all. I was also thinking on using it as a on the dock set up too as when the family comes we all end up on the dock and patio so it could be heard there too. Any ideas will be helpful as I have a lot of time to come up with a game plan just want to run wires during her makeover before reinstalling everything. Heres a pic of what I am working with so custom doing it shouldn't be a problem:471_confused_fahatce:
  14. I always wanted to ask the test center guys in Stuart why didn't OMC just make them a option on motors? If it helps so much (yes I have had them ) why don't more after market guys make them a welded on lower unit replacement case. (like the low water pick-up guys) With all the smaller HP flats boat enthusiast out there I would think there would be a interest. Murphy Law::::: I know I will be enjoying a boat show and will come up to a booth with one of my fellow forum members selling my idea. LOL Can't tell you how many times that has happened to me.
  15. Heres a few tips for a pro look and easy cleanup, the hard part is walking away till it cures. Tape the hatch lip and the deck lip before starting. Wipe the caulking area good with acetone and apply. Using a small putty knife (wiped down with Vaseline) to smooth out the bead and the tape makes easy cleanup. Just wait till the caulk isn't tacky to remove the tape. Walk away for 2 days and it will look great. You can also use GOOD marine silicone. Tape off area on door (splash well) around the gasket area. Lightly sand area clean with acetone. Wipe clean opposite area and coat with Vaseline. Lay a heavy bead of caulking around and close door (splash well) LET SET 48 hours. Open door and remove tape and you should have a custom gasket. :D/ Transom splash guards work well with it.
  16. Same here the reading is so much more relaxed and fun. Keep up the good work.
