  1. Accidents, sure. This case wasn't an accident. It was a highly possible result from a questionable anchor-pulling technique. Certainly a lesson to be learned for all of us.
  2. Not a great list. I prefer beer or rum drinks. Beam and coke would work.
  3. Trophy has a very nice 21' cc....I'm a not really a CC fan, but I like theirs. Might be worth taking a peek. About 10k less than the sailfish seems to be, at least on boattrader.com http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2007-TRO...103-CC-94558831 http://www.trophyfishing.com/brochure.asp?...6&year=2009 To get a decent ride in rougher conditions, a bay boat or something without much deadrise isn't going to give you the ride of a CC, but a good CC in that 21' range will still go pretty skinny. Not a flats boat, but plenty good for fishing in just a couple feet of water on the drift or at anchor, yet still a much better ride and more trustable offshore. this would be a great skinny water second boat ;-) http://www.boattrader.com/listing/1998-CAR...FF-J14-94741486
  4. That was easy. done and done. Still using the bigger anchor I bought to solve my anchoring problem before, so now I've got an anchor meant for a 25' boat and 18' of 5/16 galvanized chain with 3/8" shackles. That oughta hold 'er.....
  5. I'm headed out front to do the exact same setup with my anchor right now.
  6. What kind of bag do you use for a ditch bag? Currently I've got one of those white bags that came pre-stuffed with the coast guard basics. I'll be stocking it up as the season progresses this year. Is that a good ditch bag or should I be looking into something else? I like that its got mesh on the sides so that things like lifevests will have a chance to breathe and not get all mildewey.
  7. My brittany is soaking wet and stinks right now....its raining pretty hard here. She used to dig along the foundation under the house. When I caught her I'd just yell at her, or throw a dog toy at her. She doesn't do it anymore.
  8. My son is 5 and a half. I've had him fishing for two years already. He's been through about 3 of those cheap rods, and has moved on to a regular pushbutton reel, which broke last summer. Time for a new one. He's got his own uglystick even! Est. 6lb largemouth. Yeah, daddy helped. Juvie Black Sea Bass Best seat in the house Fishing in the Potomac last summer Wife helping the daughter fish a little, too.
  9. AS a kid I participated in the boating of one. We were in NC in a boat that was way too smal for Beaufort inlet. That cobia broke a tackle box, tossed a net and a cooler out of the boat, and left a welt on my thigh that was there for a week. Several of you mentioned your kids and fishing. I got my son started at age 3. Caught a few bluegill, he loved it. Last year I upgraded him to a zebco reel on an uglystick rod. He can cast it like a champ. Catches fish, reels them in, and is an animal. I'm waiting for the croaker run to solidify to get him out soon :-). He was catching bluefish two at a time on an outing last summer, it was amazing! Don't underestimate your kids. Age 3-4 is good enough for a snoopy rod. About age 5 upgrade them to at least a half decent buttoncast, if not a spinning rod. This summer I'm teaching him to use one.
  10. I don't. Rarely go that far offshore. Going to get a spot before the summer season kicks off, though. Planning a NC offshore trip in June, I'll rent one for that.
  11. Went with 5/16'ths, 18' of it, which is about 3/4 the length of my boat. Not much scientific in it, just needed a hunk of chain and estimated the length by walking it on the floor of boaters world. Also trying to go back to a smaller anchor, the one I'm using barely fits in my anchorwell.
  12. Okay I'll look at some 5/16" or the next size up. I'm leaning towards 20' of chain. Right now, though, its only got about 4'. I rarely have a problem with it holding, but sometimes it doesn't set easy. Most of the time I'm in water 40' or less, with probably 70% of my anchored time in less than 20'. I'd like to be able to anchor in deeper water with ease. I just got the 30-50% notice from boater's world, so I'm off to there this weekend to get chain, a new backup anchor, and some other goodies.....
  13. Going to increase the length of my chain. Please don't yank it. Boat is a 23' Trophy WA. Total weight with gas ass and grass probably about 5,000lbs max. I figure about 15' to 20' total chain length oughta be good. But what link size should I go with for my boat? I don't have a windlass or anything fancy. Thoughts? Going to rig my anchor for easier breakaway in case it gets hung on a reef or wreck, while I'm at it.
  14. Ramification: Yours has major drool factor. Me likey Here's Sugar Mama. Named for the wife, since she is my Sugar Mama..... Parked in the snow Tied off in Alexandria, VA, having lunch with the wife. On the trailer Video
  15. Happy to help. I left my boat in the water for the first time last sumer, for a week. And I was an hour away. It was an L shaped dock finger with 2 posts as well. Tied the boat off with enough rope to reach the moon.....
  16. Sweet, I'll try and call you tomorrow. Boat is parked here at the casa anyways, so I can try it on as soon as I get it from you.
  17. Tie off something like this. Use fenders to keep from beating up your boat. The more the merrier. Oh, and as stated, enough slack line for the boat to slide down at low tide.
  18. Yeah yeah yeah, I've been meaning to call you. What time will you be free tomorrow, or this weekend? Hey put the 26th of April on your calendar if you're free. Either Striper on the Pot or Redrum on the bay.....
  19. I am here. Thought you would all be glad to hear that..... Haven't look around yet, but the constant douchebaggery at tht is getting under my skin, hopefully this place is better.
