  1. I think its just a sign of the type of customers and the world wide web. I own a few boats. owned a SF boat company. I am retired now from my real job. and do repairs on friends boats for fun,$$ sometimes $$.Friends I fish with and I usually dont charge them. I was fixing some gaff marks {Lotsa Big eye tunas this year} on my friends 42 henriques and I found gelcoat air in one of the cockpit hatch gutters. They offered to send someone down. I said just give me some factory gelcoat and it will make my job easier. What a well constructed boat that some human being decided he didnt need to get all the air out between the gelcot and skin coat that day. One hatch gutter out of many boats is nothing. 250 dont worry. theres always going to be someone somewhere that isnt happy nomatter how many things you do right.
  2. if there is different people as much as needs to be... That is one fuggly window line. Why would they do that. Why dont they call it ferrettis folly. leave the bertram name, to die an honorable death if so be. Poweryacht you are always saying you have nothing to do with ferretti and you are always championing ferretti bertram? I am one of those former bertram, bertram owners that would never ever look twice at a ferretti bertram. I have nothing against ureopean Ideas. I am building a ureo transom on my 233. But they have made the bertram unattractive atleast to Americans. They need a new R&D department and maybe some new management.
  3. I totally agree. I am trying to use RB more. I check in and post here with my project and I signed up for the promotion right away for the auto tether. More need to post. post it and if its overthe top and in the wrong place. Then public capitol punishment is totally acceptable
  4. Picture is decieving. Sorry I suggested that. 20 space is fine with the 24 degreee formuls hull. Remember its solid glass and they always lay extra near the chine from the overlap. OMG I cut part of my bow off and I think it was 3/4+ in thick because they overlapped from each side. That prisma looks neat to work with, The coosa penske is a whole nother story. Its more rigid and cuts easier then plywood but wow Its got 2 layers of glass in it and when the small particles get loose they penetrate the skin worse then any glass I have ever worked with.
  5. At S&P tanks they have 2 thicknesses. one for tanks under 100 gal and enougher that might be about a 1/4 inch or more for the tanks over a 100 gal. Remember this is all just advice because No one is testing and documenting this. I have taken boats apart that should have coroded the tank 20 years previous and found no problem and others that looked sort of done right and were a mess. I have a question not concerning the tank, Whats the distance between main stringer and Side of hull at chine? It must be 30 in. or more. Are You going to put enouger stringer or a lot of nee or lateral bulkeads or braces?
  6. You should not have to remove tank at this point. Especially if that is pour in foam around tank. You will destroy the protective tank coating. I would at this point just pour small amounts of foam around tank to fill voids that go below tank top. Then I would seal the top very good so no water can accumulate on tank to and work its way between tank and foam, If you put any wood on top of tank to hold down place dense neoprene between tank and material . Rubber and wood hold moisture.
  7. I am wore out just looking at all the pictures. Cant Imagine all the time waiting for people to stay out of picture and walking and climbing. Then sitting infront of a computer downloading and then loading on Reel boating Wow I need a nap again. Great job ludicrous
  8. Looks like a beatiful boat, Nice lines. Excuse my ignorance. Is it a 24 ft flats boat. Or an off shore boat. Up in NJ we take a 24, 60 miles off to the canyons on a nice day. I saw where that other one had NY registration. He must be striper fishing LI sound huh? Is it sort of a do it all boat. She sure is purty Are you going bto take it north or just for FL?
  9. Yes I know dave and his two sons very good. Infact I have been fishing in hatteras in may for 20 years and dave usually is there when I am. his brother had a 38 bert that was for sale 10 years ago with cats .
  10. I am redoing one of my many 233s and this one took on a mind of its own. The transom was full of water and so was most all the closed cell floatation foam. I am also removing stringers and replacing with penske coosa board which can only absorb less then 2% of its weight in water in the worst situation. I am glassing all penske board with vinylester resin and either biaxial 1708 and some extra 1808 where needed. I built a mold to a bolt on full flotation OB bracket then after I found the transom so bad I cut my bracket apart and you will see in pictures what I did. Also formulas are but ugly in the bow. Too blunt. the 25 sea vee, whitewater, rampones were much better looking and morphed from the 233 hull. So I changed my bow also. its got a pointy prow. The console was old with many holes from previous owners installing what ever would fit. It now has 6 3 headroom with modern electronics storage.or placement. Oh I do my Fuel tank installation according to S&P the manufacturer of fuel tanks for most boat companies around jersey . Also David Pascoe surveyor web page who is very opinionated on fueltank and cored boat bottoms. My fuel tanks have angled aluminum tabs welded on and they will bolt to penske stringers. the tank will set on dense neoprene material{supplied by S&P fuel tanks} the neoprene sits on penske board glassed to stringers and hull. No foam anywhere near tank. Heres the pictures instead of enougher thousand words. Wet foam Sinking "Flotation" Foam thought this was pretty funny
  11. No starboard is pourus and holds water.1 strike. Starboard is flexible so if your deck is not rigid then your fuel tank will be supporting the deck.2 strikes. That is a Big No in fuel tank installation. If you are using foam to hold your tank in place make sure No water ever enters that compartment. It will get between the foam and the coal tar epoxy and work its way to the aluminum. No closed cel foam is water proof. It is water resistant. Good luck and maybe Ill post my 233 redo here and stir some interest. My boat is now over 26 ft long and growing. I have a 30 in full flotation fiberglass twin bracket ureo ed into the transom after I found the original transom so full of water I cut it off. I also extended the bow to a pointy prow from the original blunt bow. I made the original center console a little bigger to todays standards.
  12. Gus was that boat ever named south bound and the owners name mathews maybe just previous to the guy you bought it from? Beautiful boat and good luck. Old school is the best school.
  13. OB engine bolt holes yes. Normal screw penetration should have ample 5200 on screw and in hole.
  14. I have pulled boat trailers for years to FL. and hatteras N.C and back to N.J. As all have said the trailer is the most important worry. and the bearings are the problem because the get a bath in salt water to often I guess? As said above the bearings and maybe a second spare tire? You dont need a lot of tools to do bearings on the road? but you do need a few important ones.
  15. Good luck with the 38 bert. That is a boat that will never die. I had a friend that fished one very hard years ago in NJ. I think it was called south bound and had been converted over to 3208 cats from detroits years ago? They were never intimidated by the seas with that boat.Good luck
  16. I am 100% sure that the original BW wood was mahogany. Mahogany is cheaper and easier to find. Joining as said previous is the best way to go wide.
  17. I thought about not wasting my time on reel boating and decided to take a look again after two week habius. I see composite is still espounding his level over everyone that is actually out there building and using these products while the big boys factories are in a hibernation mode. Well here goes one more try? I buy 3/4 4x8 penske 20# for $175.00 being sold to a non professional ? And I am one of the suppliers better purchaser while some of the big names in boating are fighting to keep the doors open. Have a nice day scott
  18. BOOM you foregot to mention the Hpdi Boom engine. I trhink it was the Lean burn clean burn technology that caused most of the trouble on the 2 strokes? Thank california and Al Gore.
  19. Thanks scott for the vote of confidence ? I will now go out of my way not to use your product.
  20. Is there a transom mount transducer on that side of boat infront of that engine that might be interrupting water flow at high speed?
  21. I beg to differ. My favorite projects are taking formerly heavy IOs out and putting much lighter OBs on thge same boat. Then taking as much of the plywood, wet plywood from the 60s or 70s and replacing with light weight cored construction. I have done a few boats and had a chine that has been under water by 3 inches now floating above the water by an inch. In dual and more engine applications the outboard lower units could become ventilated when the boat is on plane and even higher out of the water. A single engine will not. Yes I have called this cavitation by mistake instead of ventilation. Sorry
  22. I am a little slow and my wife says I have special needs ? So would you use a sound bite type explanation of what ever you are trying to say? Please, for special, slow people like me.
  23. De ja vu I have two 233 projects happening and a enougher guy a few miles north of me just found out that his stringers in his 233 are gone and hes replacing them. If you make a kit up for nitzi you might have 3 more in need if the price is right? This is a little more than a hobby for us? I also usepenske board in the transom and decks that I got a good line on as well as a very good price. Apparently its been around before coosa board that came after? but everyone thinks coosa is it! It aint! Anyway if you have a 233 stringer kit in the works let us know? I also fabricated two fiberglass full flotation brackets that I made a mold to. single and twin OBs I use all fiberglass and vinylester construction with penske board for engine support.
  24. I was also told by my local yamaha service manager that without the auxillary charging hooked up a problem can be created on the yamaha charging circut? Has anyone ever had this problem?
