  1. Been boating for 20+ years and am on my 4th boat. Someone bot me a hat 10 yrs ago with my boat name on the front and "Captain" on the back, I wont wear it. This fall I plan on spending 2 weeks at the Mass Maritime Accedemy getting my captains license. When I pass the test, I'll wear the hat. Regards, Dave
  2. I need some advice on dropping the lower unit on a 1962 Merc 60 6hp. I removed the bolts and, with a little gentle persuation, was able to drop the unit by 1/4 inch. I'm sure the gearing is holding it in place. I don't want to break anything because some parts are impossible to get. Doing this to get to the water pump impeller. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave
  3. The impact driver worked great. I took a couple of dozen wacks at it but it worked. Thanks Guys. Unfortunately, there was a little bit of water in with the oil, I'd say about 90% water and 10% oil. What is the more likely culprit, the water pickup on the sides of the lower unit or the seal at the prop? Thanks, Dave
  4. I dd order O rings and a new plug. It is dark when I get home so I was going pick up an impact tool and try again this weekend.
  5. Everyting went well until I tried to remove he bottom screw for the gear oil. I can't get it to turn even with using vise-grips on the screwdriver. There is just enough rounding on the edge of the slot to pop out the screwdriver tip. Anybody got any thoughts on how I can remove the screw? Thanks.
  6. Looks like I should bring back the antifreeze winterizing kit and buy some startron and a new fuel separator. Thanks Guys.
  7. I thought I'd try to winterize the 93 Johnson 90hp on my son's 17' Montauk. The mechaninc always winterizes my boat. My question is, should I pump antifreeze in through the muffs or will all the water drain if I leave the engine down? I live in Mass and it will get cold up here come January. Also, any other tips or proceedures would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave
  8. I'm waiting on the Governments "Cash for Old Boats" program.
  9. Pascoe thought it was fairly well built with the money spent where it needs to be, like beefy stringers, etc, with cost cutting in areas less important, like above waterline hardware. With similar boats like the 30 Pursuit Express or Offshore that can be had for a little bit more money, that probably makes more sense. Thanks for the input.
  10. Anybody know where I can get a 26 x 14 piece of teak? I'm looking to redo the dash on my kids 1975 BW Montauk and instead of redoing the fiberglass I thought I've cover it in wood to match the rest of the boat. Thanks.
  11. I have the same issue with my port engine - 225 SWS. The engine stalled underway and I got is started a few times for a few seconds but then it would stall again. Now it justs turns over, no compution at all. Mechanic thinks it is a 10 micron filter buried in the power head. Said he's done a couple this year with the same symptoms. I was in Edgartown over the weekend and the two launch boats were down due to water in the fuel. I did fuel up but the problem didn't start until after I burned of about 60 gals. Still, it makes me wonder.
  12. I was looking at what appears to be a well maintained 1995 32' Luhrs Open. Was wondering if anybody has one or has any opinions. I've already read David Pascoe's review. Thanks.
  13. I run a Grady White 272 Sailfish out of Taylor's Point in Buzzards Bay (by the railroad bridge at the canal). I generally fish anywhere from the SW corner of Stellwegon/P-town down to Nomans/Squibnockett. Although, this past weekend I was 25 kmi south of the vineyard fishing at the Star.
  14. Just came across this site. My first thought was - is this just another wannabe site. Then I saw Wiley's name and registered. Looking forward to being a member. Regards, Dave
