correct, the chance of actually wearing out an outboard is almost nil, they will fail becuase of some other problem first, like a dead water pump, or an oil system failure, after that, salt water will kill them all, true, diesels are not for the high speed spend half your life in the air boaters, but on smaller boats, they are great, on bigger boats, go diesel and be happy, if you get diesels big enough, you will certainly get all the speed you want.
