2 Alternators 1 Battery Bank

Has anyone ever hooked two alternators up to One battery bank, the alternators 80a are simple internal regulated and the batteries are AGM 480 ah total. I think it will not charge properly because one alt. will sense the others output voltage and basically shut down, causing batteries to be undercharged. Anyone have experience with this or similar situation thanks in advance.....

A "battery bank" is considered (1) battery. Seeing as your saying this bank is 480Ah, are we not talking about 2 batteries?

Describe your engine/charging setup, and I think you'll find what you are looking for...

Use one Alt. and carry the other for a spare. As said above ^^^^ a bank of batteries is considered one battery .

Boat has 2 Alt Both 80a Hitachi Internally regulated. House bank is 4 Agm's Totalling 480ah Start is GRU 27 Agm. Boat owner wants to hook both Alts to house and then use an ACR to charge start Battery. I do not think this is advisable I Suggest getting a larger alt for the house and charge start with existing alt (80a). Boat owner has friend who sais his way will work. Engine is 4cyl yanmar in a Blowboat

If your friend wants to wire it that way let him do it , that way when he has to buy alts and Batts it aint your fault.

In my professional opinion, I agree.

1 Alternator per Battery Bank isolated from the other bank / Alt. is the only way this set up will work

If the purpose is to charge the House batteries separate from the starting battery and each alternator has an internal regulator it can only work if they are completly separated and isolated because as was said, 2 alts. each with it's own requlator will sense the other's voltage output and go "open" and not charge at all.

Why do "Blow Boat" owners think this stuff up?

Is it all that fresh air blowing thru their heads?
