need to buy a foghorn

i am relatively new to boating but have been told by a friend that i need to buy a foghorn, now i was FAR too embarrassed to ask any questions... so please could someone explain it and its function to me??

i have also had a look on the internet but there seem to be alot of options...

Tell what boat you have first then we can tell you what you are best to get.

And BTW, it isn't just used for fog - there are other very valuable uses for one as well.

Go to any boat supply website and search for "horns." You'll find a variety of items including electrical, canned air and lung air operated devices. My favorite is like a giant plastic kazoo.

thanks guys, love the look of that one, very classy... where did you find it?? would definitely like a more traditional looking one, everything ive seen so far is so electric and strange!

Any boating store - brick or online will have it. There are also many items on ebay - though mostly from ebay stores that focus on boating items.

BTW, they are 12V.
