More than a few of those old Elco and Higgins hulls wound up being converted into party boats during the late 1940s and 1950s. The old Falcon out of Highlands, NJ, was one of those. Despite having an (unglassed) strip-planked plywood hull, she was still in service 40 years after she first rolled off the ways at Elco's Bayonne, NJ yard.

My father in law and myself rode on the PT that was making the trip up the east coast from Key West a couple years ago. It was fun. We went offshore a couple of miles and he ran up the two diesels that were installed and it ran about 30 MPH (hard to tell on a big craft like that). Very capable craft, very impressive. My father in law is a big WWII buff and he was thrilled...

There was a restored Pt boat giving tours and rides docked on River street in Savannah about a year ago don't remember exactly. I did not go on it but saw it up close and later running down the river when I was working, the boat looked amazing! I think it traveled to different cities to show off the boat.
