2010 Boating and Fishing Projects

Recommended Posts

Like everyone who gets a new-to-them boat, there are a pile of small jobs that they want to do on their boat.

Well I sat down last night and started my to do list for 2010

- Install a pulpit and winch

- Install complete set of electronics and controls in the cockpit (8 inch Furuno NN3)

- Find a way to store more than 20 rods and reels on the boat without having to take them apart

- Install a search/spot light on the boat

- Install the heater on the flybridge

- Install a new transducer to match the new electronics

And still have time to go fishing . . . want to do 20 overnight fishing trips this year

Will have to see what I run out of first . . . time or money :)

What is on your list?

added to the list because of your suggestions

rope cutters on the shafts

larger bilge pumps

My list is kind of short but once the winter lets us loose my plans are for the following;

Install the second VHF and antenna that have been sitting in the garage waiting to be put in

Install two backup bilge pumps and high water alarms.

Re wire and saerch for a gremlin in my sounder/E-80

Install front facing deck light

Install I-pod adapter to stereo

Install boat name

Dream about a new radar package(this one is ongoing)

Install chart rack(tired of trying to keep them dry and out of the way)

Maybe underwater lights if the funds hold out long enough.

I usually have a couple of "wish list" items and a bunch of maintenance items. This year my list is the following:

-- FLIR (wl)

-- AIS Transponder, acr (wl)

-- mounted spotlight

-- underwater lights

-- shaft cutter

-- repair windlass motor (needs a tap to start)

-- new thru-hull temp gauge

-- some rewiring

-- add a high cap bilge pump

-- crash valve

-- voltage conditioner/stabilizer for electronics

-- prop reconditioning

I'm sure there is other stuff. It's never ending.

Auguste. I'm also thinking about putting a bow pulpit on my boat. 1st time for me could you post some pics and details what are you using wood or fbrglass. Etc. Thanks

I am selecting a fiberglass pulpit. I am not using wood anywhere outside of the boat . . . lots of wood inside however

The basic pulpit, quite a large strong one as I am installing a winch, with the stainless steel rollers is about $600 to $675 . . . I am not sure what size until I measure the boat

I am not sure yet how the pulpit will be attached. There are two sets of bolts, about 6 for the pulpit to the hull and about 4 from the winch through the pulpit andthen the hull.

I will have to install some sort of backing inder the bow deck but I have to remove the header to see what I need there.

I will also have to shape the pulpit or add something so that the surfaces match with the hull.

YES, I will post pictures, but this project will not start till May or June.

  • 3 weeks later...

First off I have to find a new/used trailer. The one my Cobia is sitting on now is just rust holding hands. Then on with some goodies:

T-Top (C.E. Smith or Stryker)

New dash with all new gauges

New upholstery on lean to and front ice chest seat

New rub rail

Speakers either on the T-Top or in the original spots

Remove all old pin stripping and Cobia sticker and replace with new model emblem

Finally a real good cleaning and waxing!!!!!
