Survey or Not?

Recommended Posts

FYI I have never ever heard of needing a survey on a boat in order to procure financing; and insurance companies only require a survey if over 10 years old. Your boat has a long and fine warranty and if you are dealing with a well known and respectable dealer. I think you are throwing money away by hiring a surveyor on this one.

Most banks (all) want a survey on a boat thats more then a few years old . there may be a price point where they ask for one. But on a new boat I would think so

I recently purchased a new, leftover 2008 21' boat. I did not get a survey. Probably should have but I'll deal with it, I guess.

On a demo boat, especially a $200K boat like a 31' EdgeWater, I would definitely get a survey. The $400 you spend on the survey will be the cheapest thing you ever buy for that boat!

UPDATE; I signed the Doc's yesterday!

Life got busy last week (read WORK) and literally lost focus on the Survey concern, and I now own a new boat! (my wife complains about my ADD all the time...I guess she's right).

Well, I bought the beauty from a very reputable dealer on the Cape, and at this point can only look forward and not back.

The cost of the survey was never my concern, it was the should I or shouldn't I.

Thanks for all your feedback/input...I can't wait for SPRING ! :D
