Hard steering need help

Recommended Posts

The steering is very ###### my boat. I disconnected both motors and the swing very easily. With the motors disconnected the helm was the same and makes some squeaks. The helm is a Sea Star by teleflex HH5271 1.7 cu in. The boat is a cat and has two separate cylinders connected with a "liquid tie bar". I am not sure how it works but there is a valve like switch connecting the two.

Could some seals be going and the cylinders are actually working against each other? I checked what I can see of the hoses and

they are not kinked.

You didn't say, but I assume you have twin outboards.

Are your engines counter rotating?

Do you have trim tabs on the engines and if so, are they set at proper angles?

Yes they are counter rotating Suzuki 140's. No trim tabs it is a 26 catamaran. The steering is hard with the engines not connected

to the steering cylinders. ( I disconnected the rod that attaches to the outboard)

This manual will introduce you to your "Liquid Tiebar", and the proper installation/bleeding techniques.

I used to install these on Aquasport 23 Tournament Cats. Kinda of a POA to bleed and get the motors to behave like they liked one another...
