  1. Un-configure your engine interfaces (reset values on the display), then re-configure. And make sure you have GOOD VOLTAGE on your batts at all times... Thanks for the info Osprey, I have the nmea powered by the house battery. The house battery is charged by a voltage sensing relay. Should I have it powered by one of the starting batteries? I have three 4 inch and two 2 inch gauges. I was going to disconnect the 2 inch gauges and install the new terminating resistors this weekend. When I reset the values will I have to start with naming the engines like the original install? thanks, Joe
  2. My NMEA 2000 gauges don't recognize my 2008 df140s most of the time. If I turn a motor on and off a half dozen times usually one will come on line. recently the port motor seems to have lost the amount of fuel burned and 3 hours on the meter when it came back on. The paddle wheel stop working and I disconnect it and moved the terminating resistor, this seemed to help a little. thanks for any input.
  3. I would not buy a combo unit, especiallly a bottom machine GPS. If you bottom fish you need to use them both at the same time. Watching for spots while you navigate, trying to hold over a spot ect. If you used the split screan you end up with less screen than the handheld. How many TVs with the built in VCR (that worked for 6 months) are still around?
  4. I use epoxy to seal the wood around the large hole. The screw holes I use 5200. The boat in the pictures did not have any wood in the gunwales so I used some clear silicone. I would be more concerned with sealing if I lived where freezing could be an issue
  5. Looks great. Who needs laser cutting? Has any one used or seen corian plastic used for a dash panel? It is easy to polish to a high gloss and dupont rates it fo outdoor use.
  6. One thing You can never have to many of is rod holders. I went ahead and added another 1/2 dozen this year. I like to tape the area off and measure twice before Drilling. Make sure you have the clearance under the gunwale and move any wires or hoses that might be near where you plan to drill. I clamp a wood template over the gunwale. This makes drilling more accurate and protects the finish should the pilot bit brake or the hole saw skip out of the hole. This works especially well when drilling angled holes. Lay the rod holder next to your drill to help approximate the drilling angle. The reason the template has 3 holes is because one is 30 deg, 15 deg and 90 deg. After the holes are drilled use a counter sink bit to ease the edge of the gelcoat. This will prevent spider web cracks in the gelcoat when you tighten up the bolts. For the large hole I use a small router and a 45 deg chamfer bit to relive the gelcoat. You could just use sandpaper instead. Ready to bolt down the rod holder. Through bolts are preferred over wood screws if you can access the underneath. Lee makes some backing plates if the gunwale need reinforcing. Remember to line up the bottom of the rod holder so the cross pin in the bottom is parallel of perpendicular to the gunwale.
  7. We could not pass up the flat seas, sunshine and low 70 degree temps on Friday. With a crew of three we headed out for deep water prospecting some stuff we found on the 3d bottom software. We ended up with about two dozen good sized fish but nothing really big. We did see a whale. sun rise on the way out JO JO with a bass Burt with a tile Some times they don't make to the boat whole Jo Jo's first tile the bottom machine was working a lot better, a spot we ran over on the way to deeper water. Had a bunch of scamp on it. Everybody was fishing hard in these harsh conditions. We will be eating well this week The whale
  8. The refurbished units have the same warranty and were gone over by a trained tech who spoke english. Some one inside garmin told me they would personly go this way because the refurbs were more reliable and cheaper. http://cgi.ebay.com/Garmin-GPSmap-540-5-Marine-GPS-Receiver_W0QQitemZ310207530112QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGPS_Devices?hash=item4839cf4480
  9. I had a bad network box too. Would not power up anything, garmin replaced it under warranty
  10. What is the price range for this? I have a 26' cat.
  11. I just lowered my 140 outboards one hole. Did not seem like the transom bolts were very tight. Is there a recommended torque for these bolts? I used 5200 and torqued them to 30 ft lbs. Usually 1/2" bolts with fine threads torque much higher. Just wondering what the recomended guidelines are.
  12. I would go for the kit. Should probably include the trailer though, most DIY folks can't take delivery of just a hull.
  13. Nice Fish. I thought I had heard the wahoo have some kind of run down there. Is it true? and how long does the run last? What would be the best time of the year to target wahoos? thanks, Joe
  14. Mark, Burt and I braved the rough seas and cold weather for some golden tiles. We left Fort Morgan at 6:00 AM and headed south. Seas were about 2 1/2' and gradually died down to about 1 1/2'. Nice and sunny all day in the mid 50s. We ended up with a boat load of goldens, small snowies and blue tiles. Except for some commercial boats we did not see any one else out there. Joe Sunrise on the way out
  15. All I use in DF140 Suzuki's is 100% synthetic. I use mobile one 10w40 in the winter and 20w50 in the summer. That is what the Suzuki owners manual calls for. synthetics give superior film strength and performance over all regular and blended oils. Look at what they put in airplanes, high performance cars and expensive industrial and farm equipment. As far as corrosion resistance I think it is impossible for any part coated in any oil to corrode. It is proven that synthetics offer the most protection during cold starts which is when most wear occurs
  16. I bought a husky for homedepot that has worked great, even with some latex. Look for a gravity feed ( one that has the cup on top of the gun) and strain you paint very well.
  17. Dual binnacle $75, Switch with keys $35, Engine harness $25 2005 DF140
  18. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At 6:00 we scraped ice off the windshield and headed for Fort Morgan. We were pleasantly surprised by less than 1" seas and a balmy 45 deg air temperature at the mouth of the bay. After discovering a problem with my newly installed scuppers (they spray water in the boat while under way, never a good thing.) We headed out to a ledge I found on the Kiva bath charts. We saw Team Recess disciplining some reef donkeys on our way out to deep water. Jessie dropped down and pulled up 3 grouper on the first drop. Burt was right behind him with another, though slightly handicapped with with a very light rod that he kept bent in a U shape most of the day. After limiting out on snowies we caught a half dozen tile fish had headed in. After the sun came up it warmed to about 55 degrees and turned in a great day. Thanks Burt and Jessie for crewing.
