Aluminum Care?

Recommended Posts

So.... some a$$h@les stole the fabric from my t-top this weekend. I am going to try and make the best of it and am going to use the time before the new top is put on to do some maintenance.

I would like to know what the best way to clean up the aluminum is. It has some oxidation and rough spots that i would like to get rid of. Nothing to bad as it seems nothing has pitted anywhere that I can see. Then finish it off with a good wax. Any recommendations?

I assume it is annodized aluminum.

I use the bronze wool that comes from Woody's. It removes all corrosion products and smooths and polishes the metal.

Then I cover with carnuba wax or Rejex acrylic coating. I have also used the Woody's sponge packs to do metal on my boat. They seem to all last about the same time here in SW FL-3 months.

I have used a product called Wenol in the past with good results. It is basically a polish that will eat up the oxidation(light oxidation only) and it shines real well. It also leaves a caoting that helps protect though I would add a good aluminum wax or protectant to it as well.

Since it is tubing, it is real easy to use. Just put some on a rag and wrap it around and use a shoe polish kind of action on it. Pull it back and forth and it makes its own friction and polishing action. Will take no time at all. Ok maybe some time but not too bad.
