trophy boats

I believe the trans formation and changes in quality happened after Brunwick took over the Trophy line in 2000. thats what I was told when I bought mine new in 2004.

No surprise that the dealer told you that. That is also what Brunswick's marketing dept was trying to get out in front of the public.

Actually, Brunswick purchased US Marine, which included Bayliner and their fishing boat line, Trophy, back in '87. The purchase also included Escort trailers and Force engines.

Yes, the major quality/build change in the Trophy's by Bayliner occurred in 2000. They dropped the "Trophy by Bayliner" moniker on their boats, in their ads, brochures and web site shortly thereafter in an attempt to show the public that they "seperated" from Bayliner.

But that was only a marketing move. Folks still went to their local Bayliner dealer to buy a Trophy, to have it repaired under warranty and to buy parts for it. There are no stand-alone Trophy dealers that I have been made aware of (and I have asked that question for years now).

All of the corporate mgmt for Trophy are the same folks that push the buttons for Bayliner. Same dealer meetings for both "brands" as well.

But, perception does become reality...

Aboater...all that you say is true...there was however positive change in construction methods/materials to Trophy in 2000, that's what I see in my 2000, 2802WA...

the only "cheap" thing I have found in 9yrs, 5 mos of ownership is the bilge pumps...

2 out of three failed within 3 yrs...not terrible either.....1 original is still going strong.

the wiring runs could be better bundled, but I have seen much worse also...

They did try to remove the "bayliner" stigma...they have to some degree....

remember the same parent company that built the Vega and Chevette also build Corvettes and Cadillacs............ :1992_beer_cheer:

That's what I decided when shopping......I am not a novice, this is boat #9.......

The cockpit is very large, has 240 gal fuel, AND the sole that covers it is one piece that is removable, guttered and sealed. 2 large in sole fishboxes, they do drain to a sump in the bilge with a pump, would prefer overboard direct, I pump it over board now. the large live well works great, has the "standing" feeder pipe that puts out 8 jets at different levels...many other features, I like it a lot......got a compliment form a GW Marlin owner on a group trip to Bimini........I paced him on the way over...he said...I didn't know Trophy made a boat that nice...gave me a thumbs up..........his 30 ftr cost about...2.5 times what my 28 ftr cost... :1992_beer_cheer:
