F250 Yamahas "making oil?"

Recommended Posts

both engines passed the leak down test, so rings are not the issue. Going to order oil samples to be sure it is fuel in the oil. service tech now checking for leaking injector or stuck pcv valve.

As an aside, what is this thing about "fused woodruff keys?" Something about if it is not removed and lubricated at the 100 hours, it has to be drilled and tapped to be removed at the 200hr?? Is this common?

If you are referring to the woodruff key in the water bump assembly, they are difficult to remove, but I did not have to drill and tapp. I just grabbed the key with nippers and banged away.

OK, back to the "making oil" issue: Leak down results were well within specifications, injectors pressure test perfectly, pvc valves, and thermostats check out. Service center is at a loss and has sent oil samples out for evaluation and is contacting Yamaha for their insight.

If you find out that it is all oil, let us know - we have an answer to the energy crisis! :2261_high:

Ok, oil samples were perfect. No gasoline in the oil. f-it, i'm goin fishing!

I'd guess that you were not making oil. either too much oil was put in, or the oil was measured just afer lowering the motors from their full tilt position without running the motors. I drop my motors and then run them before I read the dip stick. Also, double dip that dip stick and read it after the second dipping. You can have an air bubble in the tube on the first dip that can give a false reading.
