LOODY von SnookMeister

Recommended Posts

She would be a hard one to catch. Clear water, you see her, she see's you. I suggest a nighttime ambush.

Formula for large snook this time of year:

1. Heavy gear if your near docks, seawalls, etc. I use 65 braid, 80 floro leader (tied with a Red Phillips knot) to a 8/0 Owner circle hook. Drag locked down.

2. Cut bait! Cut bait! Cut bait! (the only live bait I use for monster snook is a whole ladyfish) Long strip about 12 inches long and one wide.

3. "Set it and forget it" method. Throw out and wait. Circle hook will do all the work. Pick rod up out of holder and bull her in.

4. Photo and release quickly.

Got a trip planned for this weekend if anyone is interested. We can split the $2.50 in fuel I'll use in the Contender.

Purdy fish that puts up a great fight. They taste mighty good too.

That is a whopper Ludi!!!

I dig this setup and keep a rod rigged with it at all times:

I also keep a rod rigged with that setup. Although I like the Zoom line of baits. For saltwater I use plain white Zoom superflukes and jigheads, fresh water watermelon Zoom superfluke and 5/0 Owner wide gap hooks. Many local saltwater guides use the white color and jigheads for nearly all species. I'll use the 5/0 Owner wide gap hooks with no weight when fishing in the surfline for snook since they are within 10 feet of the beach. Snook can be very difficult to catch in clear water when they can see you. I'd cast down the seawall and work it back parallel, but probably no takers until nightfall.

Snook trip in 3 days. PM me if you'd like a shot at 38" plus monster snook.
