What Caused Problem?

I put a Yamaha Mini-10 Micron fuel/water separator on my 70 hp 2-stroke last week, cranked it up with the muffs on and it ran fine. Took the boat out this past weekend, backed the boat into the water and got it started but it would not stay running, almost like the idle speed was too low. Pulled the boat out, disconnected the filter and put the original fuel line on. Boat started and ran fine. After a couple of hours sitting anchored, boat would not start. Tried repeatedly for almost 30 min. Finally ended up calling TowboatUS. Tried again about 5 minutes later and the boar started and ran fine (canceled tow). Took it out the next day and it ran great all day. Now I am afraid to hook the filter back up. Am I being paranoid? Was the installation of the filter and the boat not wanting to run a coincidence? With all the horror stories of fuel contamination, I really want to run the filter but am kind of afraid to. Could it just have been some "junk" line? Any ideas?

Bad line maybe or water is clogging up the filter. New line may also have a crack in it , can you do a vacuum test on it or pressure test ?

Did you fill the filter first?

How could water get in it - its a new install ??

Maybe an air pocket and was losing its prime?

I did fill the filter before installing. Evan after disconnecting the filter and re-installing the original fuel line, it still runs ragged. I am just wondering if some crap has gotten in the line and has fouled up my carbs. I bought some carb cleaner and some Startron today and will give that a shot tonight.

E10 Fuel?

Sounds like a blockage. I'd get a vacuum test of the like as mentioned above.

Check and make sure the fuel line did not get crimped or cut during installation. Also check to make sure the hose is fully on the barb and that the clamp is over the barb and not constricting the hose.

Well, I pulled all my plugs, checked gaps, cleaned them, sprayed carb cleaner in the carbs and added some Startron. Got the motor started and adjusted the idle just a tad. It ran for 10+ minutes before I shut her down. I started it later and again ran 10+ minutes. I am hoping it was just some gunk or blockage and it will be ok now. Heading to the coast this weekend so I guess we'll find out. Thanks for your input.
