BOAT U.S. Towing question

I received my renewal for BOAT U.S. towing- I always get the unlimited on water towing for $139.00 (which includes dues and a donation ) and now I see they have a plan called Unlimited Gold that covers 100% towing from your home dock. It costs $180.00 Do you think this is a good plan to have?

Depends on where your home dock is and how big the boat is, it seems to me. If you might need to be towed a long way for repairs, might be the way to go. If your dock is in a harbor with a ramp, and you can trailer your boat, I'd call it a waste of cash. As near as I can tell the only difference between gold and unlimited is that unlimited only pays 50% when towed from home port.

On the other hand, even if you have a trailer, is it worth saving the extra $40 and having to trailer it (time and fuel)? Something to consider.

I cut a deal with my local Tow US guy for $133, inc trailer towing, and I believe a tow up to $750: but we are in the same port. They want your business so deal with the local franchise. This time of year they either write enough business to stay alive or "sink".

Where are you located?In many places Sea Tow covers just as well if not better,my membership through them was $149

Thanks for the responses-

I keep my boat at a marina-there is no ramp there, I put the boat in at a public ramp. I guess I'll get the extra coverage in case I break down at my dock.
