2003 Mercury 225 4 Stroke Question

I seem to be have intermittent starting issues. I took the boat out yesterday and ran it for 5 hours no issues. Turned the motor off and when I tried to start it back up nothing. I can hear the motor getting power and then when I try and crank it nothing. After I turn the key back I get some clicking noise kind of like when your battery is to low to kick the starter over. So I let it set for a little while and try it again and it starts. I have checked the fuses and for any corrosion don't seem to see any. Any one have a clue they could through my way?

i have the same engine, sounds like a bad battery battery, have you checked your battery? if your battery is good, it could be a bad connection on your battery or starter. what kind of boat?

34 Fountain I did check the battery and at the terminals on the motor it is was like 12.5.

If your batt and conections are good, it sounds like a bad starter solenoid.

Make sure there is at least 10v at the battery when trying to crank it over. No more than a 1/2v voltage drop across each connection to the starter.

Or what is even easier is an amps clamp. I'm guessing that your outboard would need around 100A to turn it over.

Starter soleniod can you by just the soleniod or is it part of the starter?

Job, They are usually separate. But you should always test before you start

changing parts.
