  5. Pete, Was there a filter that you had replaced that was in the carb? If so, a common problem with the symptoms you have is a piece of crud keeping the needle and seat in the float bowl from closing. The way to check is to look down the carb when it is running in the idle position. No fuel should be comming out of the main jets in the airhorn. The correction is to starve the carb out of fuel when running by squeezing off a rubberline between the fuel pump and carb. Before it totally dies out, unclamp the fuel line and a burst of fuel will blow the debri off of the needle and seat. If this desn't help you, I hope it can help someone else.
  6. It might be easier to add some zinc anodes to take hit instead of the trailer.
  7. Contactor, Take a closer look at what kind of oil it is. Most likely it is just fog spray lube from winterizing last season.
  8. Job, They are usually separate. But you should always test before you start changing parts.
  9. Nice catch! The big girls are just starting to show up in Old Saybrook.
  10. If your batt and conections are good, it sounds like a bad starter solenoid. Make sure there is at least 10v at the battery when trying to crank it over. No more than a 1/2v voltage drop across each connection to the starter. Or what is even easier is an amps clamp. I'm guessing that your outboard would need around 100A to turn it over.
  11. Dan, You mentioned that it had twins. Did the other engine have similar clots in the oil? Was it milky in any way?
  12. It's a small chapter, but it's a start. Great to hear from everyone. I should be in the water by May 1. I work a small are around the mouth of the CT river, mostly stripers. But I do like to eat fluke every now and then. Tight Lines!

  19. Lots of great info guys. Just a couple extra tidbits. Their are only 3 battery manufactures left in the U.S.(Stay away from china batteries) Deka, Excide, and Johnson controls. No matter what the sticker says on it, One of these made it. Some other batt. info on state of charge. 12.6v=100% charge 12.4v=75% 12.2v=50% 12.0v=25% 11.8v or less=discharge Just something to keep in mind while whatching your voltmeter when sitting still.
  20. I was over a friends house and noticed he had a fishing rod that was telescoping and made of brass. I looked for a name or model. Nothing was written on it. No pic of it yet. Has anyone ever had heard of one of these?
  21. Depending on the situation, It still would be a tough call. I wonder what an off duty police officer would do?
