  1. Unfortunately, that is a common practice. If I don't know the length, I always ask for the length from "stem to transom".
  2. Gus, Check out this 42 Post. It is owned by a friend of mine and it is cherry. <http://www.martinbird.com/searchmbird.php?rPage=/privatelabel/listing/pl_boat_detail_handler.jsp?slim=pp276655&units=Feet&boat_id=1821192&back=%2Fprivatelabel%2Flisting%2Fcache%2Fpl_search_results.jsp%3Fslim%3Dpp276655%26type%3D%2528Power%2529%26sm%3D3%26cit%3Dtrue&searchtype=buy>
  3. Here is the link documenting the project on my boat. Check it out and see what you think. http://www.classicparker.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=785
  4. Good to see you too Sal! I pop in here occasionally to keep up on whats happening... Stop by CP sometime. Most of the usual suspects are still there, and you are always welcome.
  5. It would not suprise me. Check out the OEM's that use their products. It's quite extensive. http://www.lifelinebatteries.com/ Problem is that many companies are tight lipped about their rebranding practices so it's tough to know for sure.
  6. True, but those flooded cells won't last 10 years either. When you spread the cost out over the life of the batteries, the cost is actually reasonable. The Optimas I have in the boat now have never been removed for a winter, and other than normal cleaning of the connections, they have never needed any service. The only reason I'm replacing them is because I need them to power my emergency backup sump pump because the 2 year old flooded cell presently powering the system is toast.
  7. I have a pair of Optima blue-tops in place right now that have given me stellar service for the past 6 years. Still, I plan to replace the Optimas this season with a pair of group 31 Lifelines. http://www.lifelinebatteries.com/ The Optimas will be moved to my basement where they will be hooked to my battery powered sump pump in case of a power failure (which always seems to happen at the worst possible time).
  8. Understand that AGM and gel batteries are two different animals. You can read about the difference here: http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Battery_F...Battery%20Types
  9. If you're leaving swirl marks, it's probably because the finish is more oxidized that you thought and the medium you were using is not agressive enough to cut that oxidation off.
