  1. My first boat was a 10' skiff that was built by me and my dad (Mostly dad, but he did no work unless I was their "assisting"). It did have twin power though - one oar for each side. From there I upgraded to a 13' Whaler, at age 13. I made more than one trip to Block Island in that boat. Two years later I had a 17' Whaler.
  2. You could do it the old fashioned way - get some spikes and climb.
  3. I just finished refinancing, loan funded today (4.75%/30 years). Here are some of my observations based on the process. 1) Lenders are going back to the way it used to be, when you actually had to qualify for the loan you were getting. The mortgage broker I used is 27 YO - he was constantly apologizing for the the things the lender was requesting. He commented on how "it used to be a credit report and that was it a few years ago". I reminded him that this was nothing compared to when I bought my first home 2) BofA suffers from some serious cranial rectum dysfunction. It used to be that they knew how to take care of those in their private clients group. That is no longer the way. After Memorial Day I will see what Bank RI private clients group is like as they will be my new bank of choice 3) Underwriting has moved away from automation and there seems to be a human element once again. Unfortunately this human element is not as qualified as they should be. They understand nothing about debt shields, tax structures, and geared and ungeared earnings. ZBA deposit accounts are completely foreign to them as well, never mind understanding liquidity requirements required by bonding agencies. In the end, I feel I should charge the lender an MBA tuition fee for educating their underwriting department. 4) When it comes time to funding, check your Hud 1 as nobody else will. They tried to charge me twice for the appraisal, and had an incorrect payoff figure. The loan funded a day late, and when I demanded a credit for one days interest, they (lender) had no idea why they owed me money. Once explained, they said they would deduct it from the final loan payment. I said okay, but only if you future value it at todays value. Right over their head, could not figure out what I meant by a dollar 30 years from now is not the same as a dollar today. A suoervisor will call me back - yeah right 5) Liars loans are no where to be found. A few years back I would get countless calls from mortgage brokers how they could get my clients no verification loans, just let them pre-qual my clients. In the end, things seem to be back where they once were - those that qualify will get loans at good rates, those that do not qualify, will not.
  4. What the man did certainly is admirable and he took a risk in doing. The ending turned out great for all parties. However, I agree with others, he is not a hero. In fact, Menzies, the good doctor does not even fit your own definition of a hero. The man is a doctor, he is expected to do everything in his power to try to save a persons life. The way I see it, the doctor did not do somethingover and above what he had to do, or what he was expected to do.
  5. As noted, what have you done to eliminate fuel, air, and temp? What does the fuel/water seperator look like? Is this ethanol gas? Old gas in the tank? Did you mix ethanol and MBTE gas? I would start by isolating the issue to engine or supply side. Start by hooking the engine up to an auxilary tank with new fresh gas and see what happens. If you isolate the issue to engine side, start with the usual suspects. O2 sensor VST filter Low pressure fuel pumps
  6. Fichtion: Thanks for the reply. I relented, got it renewed yesterday and sent a copy this morning. The closing attorney basically said this morning what you did, that their hands are tied because it is the lender. I actually realize this and my issue is with the lender and not the closing atty. This morning I have also asked for a credit from the lender as they have now charged me one extra day of per diem interest at the closing. I really do not care but it is the principal of the matter at this point. Rate is 4.75% conforming 30 year fixed.
  7. On 05/15/2009 I closed on a refinance. Today, what should be funding day, the attorneys office calls and tells me their is an issue with my license that they copied on the day I closed. My license expired on 05/16/2009. I ask what the issue is, my license was valid on the day I closed and dated all documents. The attorney says that the lender wants to see the license valid through the funding day. I ask why, it makes no difference, the license was valid the day I closed, signed, and dated. They say why can't you just send a copy of the new one? Becasue I have not renewed it yet I say. What say the great minds here - do I have a case to tell the lender to eff off?
  8. Excellent work!! Of course the site is a tease as the shop tour is not set up!! My other hobbies include Trap and Sporting Clay shooting, RC cars, and lately I have discovered the joys of Pen Making.
  9. Permits, we don't need no stinking permits!! I once had an issue over a road in a sub division which had to to go to court to be reolved. I won (thanks to an attorney that really knew her stuff) and the town went ballistic on me when I submitted the name for the road - "Cuin Ct."
  10. I love mine. Not a true walk=around per se as it is a center console walk around. Fits our needs perfectly for thge type of boating we do. The cabin is small, but functional. Primarily it gives our son (and dogs) a place to rest. Also not a bad place for a nap for the long runs in. The seating between the console and cabin is great for our son while docking and un-docking. Aslo functions as a great place for non boating knowledgable guests to stay during the docking and undocking. Boat is a Pursuit 2800 Offshore
  11. Do as much as I can time permitting. Admittedly though, sometimes I have to pony up to the yard just to have it done when I want to use the boat.
  12. Just in case anyone had any questions on Garett's position on the matter.
  13. The proper repsonse would have been - "Yeah, I replaced the battery, unfortunately that was not the issue" Then, AFTER everybody leaves, you kick yourself for not knowing there was a battery and replace it.
  14. That was kind of my point, that signature is not new. I thought Welder was referring to the second part of it, which is why I was not getting it.
  15. I do not get it, what is so "great" about it?
  16. Uphill, in any direction you look. Document, document, and document. They will do everything in their power to blame the installation and the installer. They will want you to document and prove that you followed to the letter their installation procedures. When they do agree to cut you a check, they will also want to depreciate the shingles over thier useful life to date (I kid you not). My suggestion is to gather as much documentation that you have or can dig up from the installation. Kille them with kindness to start out. Never agree to what they tell you intitially, thank them, digest it for 24 hours, then get back to them with follow up and more questions. They are hoping you are disorganized and will quickly go away with little fight. The more they see you are organized and knowledgable, the less leverage they will have. Hope this helps.
  17. Thanks everyone, I will look those up and see what I can find. 30Tournament - 2800 Offshore CC
  18. Because of where it connects into the rest of the exhaust, I have to remove the rear deck to get the piece off. Since I have to do this, I am not going to band aid it but replace all four of them and the rest of the exhaust while the deck is up. Closer inspection also revealed that their may have been an attempted repair in the past, that has failed.
  19. I have developed an exhaust leak on the outboard side of my starboard engine. The leak is from the seal at the fiberglass peice you see in the picture. Anyone know where I can get replacements of these things (the fiberglass exhaust piece that is)? Yes, I have called Pursuit, but have not heard back from them as of yet. Thanks in advance
  20. Much better. Before, the way the letters were flwoing was confusing to me as well. The way the W flowed from the T, etc.
  21. Keep trying. I find both of them difficult to read. The first one is too busy and the second one, not sure if it is the font, colors, or shadowing (or a combination of all three) but I find it difficult to read.
  22. I wonder if they travel to RI, because no way you will get that price here.
  23. Wickford Rhode Island. The local grocery even offers free coffee and tables to sit at and enjoy. For parents with young children, they even have an aisle in which they will unload your cart, scan the items, bag them, load your cart, and walk it out to your vehicle for you. Of course, this line takes longer, but it is a good service to offer.
  24. Wow, I guess I have it good here. Actually it is rare that I go to a grocery store as I use Pea Pod (nothing beats home delivery). However, when I do go, the local market is actually a friendly social setting. The checkout actually ENFORCES the 15 item or less rule. People in line will say, "Why don'y you go first, you only have a few things"
