  1. Based on your description of the use I believe you need an electric reel not a downrigger. Downriggers are normally used for trolling not bottom fishing. Here is a quick link to downrigger fishing. Caveat - I didn't read the article just a quick glance to see if it was close. http://www.queenscreek.com/downriggerfishing.html And here are some pics of fish caught on an electric reel and the reel. Anthony is a member here and a good guy. http://www.fish-ng.com/html/gallery.htm Hope this helps.
  2. Good to see you here too Jim. I tell ya, the ocean season Striper fishing this wasn't too good. There were some big ones caught but the bite was very sporadic. The bay season was pretty good, I got limits on just about every trip. Next year be sure to try a trip in late November or December. Did I ever tell you that back in '88 I climbed the water tower in Ramseur? The big one on the road toward Asheboro. It is about time I got back down there for some NC fishing again!!
  3. Instead of flooding the Introductions thread with questions, comments and answers making the only half the posts about who is here I figure we could have this one to follow up on. I’ll go first: To Wolfpack 03. Hey Brad, life here is pretty good, 15 minutes away from the marina. I haven’t talked to Chip much at all, he’s become somewhat of a hermit. This is usually one of those conditions where when you don’t hear anything it is a good sign. Now that it is starting to warm up I expect some more contact. To all you others: It is good to see some very familiar names here too. It is about time for another get together of some sort. Tom
  4. Well that makes two of us from Hampton Roads that is celebrating a birthday today. I got nine years on ya though!! I hope you had a good one! Mine was pretty good, there was a little surprise thing at lunch today.
  5. Screen name is due to a lack of originality but at least I'm consistant. Boat name is TomFishery a take off on tomfoolery.
  6. I went by the Norfolk store yesterday and agree that some things are listed a little higher than normal. The electrical was 30% off here too. The guys working were nice enough considering they don't know how much longer they will have a job. They said the stores are now owned by a liquidator and they are calling all the shots, the employees said they have no idea when the prices will change. We are lucky enough up here to have some other stores besides a Waste Marine so there is still some competition.
  7. Same name as on the other boards: Tom Hubert Location: Norfolk now, born and raised in Greensboro, lived in Raleigh/Cary, Fayetteville, Columbia SC, and did time in Northern Virginia (no not behind bars). Fish the Lower Chesapeake mainly now Striper, Flounder, Cobia, Drum, Spanish, Sheephead, Spades, Trout the list goes on. I haven't been offshore in a couple of years ... maybe this year! 24' Albemarle - Tomfishery. I love my boat! Single ... again.
  8. Ditto this. As many others have said if you are going to troll in the ocean I'd go with a 12" - 14" wire leader too.
