  1. And I wouldn't have won the multi-million dollar prize! Is that check ready yet ?
  2. I've used the same threat when my kids were that age, and went so far as to pull to the side of the road and open their doors. That alone was always enough; there was never any need to actually make them get out, and I certainly would never have driven off and left them there.
  3. I know I came in here for a good reason, but I seem to have gotten distracted by an avatar..... Oh, yeah - - now I remember. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
  4. I like it, Ludicrous! Think of all the cost savings; no trial, no lawyer fees, no housing the guy at taxpayer expense for 20 years or so... And no funeral costs for his family. Just a little time with a shop vac.
  5. Thanks. Now that I've won the multimillion dollar prize, I can finally afford to retire, buy a bigger boat, build a mansion on the water, do a little world cruising and fishing.............. Don't mail the check; I'll pick it up in person.
  6. White powder coating should give it a great look, but I've always wondered about stain resistance - - think fish blood/guts, greasy handprints, etc. - - and ease of cleaning up such messes on white powder coated surfaces. (Obviously, no first-hand experience here.) Any negative experiences, anybody?
  7. So where are the pictures ? Been there, done that. Once it's all done, it'll be well worth the hassle.
  8. Backing the motor into the water to test-run it ?
  9. Apparently this mental midget never heard of "dye packs". ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando police on Monday released surveillance video showing a bank robber running with an undisclosed amount of money while a dye pack explodes. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/orl-robber-...99232.htmlstory Michael Daak, 34, was charged with robbery in the incident, which occurred Friday at about 11:30 a.m. at the Banco Popular located at 2320 S. Orange Ave. According to Orlando police, Daak entered the bank and demanded money before fleeing. The video shows a man sprinting away when the dye pack exploded, sending a red plume into the air. A UPS truck is seen driving by moments later, and the driver helped direct officers to Daak's location, Orlando police said. He was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.
  10. Ag Secretary is just doing his part to improve the economy. More ethanol into the gastanks in our cars and trucks=destroyed engines=consumer has to buy a new car/truck=auto makers get back to profitability. Very simple game.
  11. I'm with The Admiral on this one. I'd have freaked also. That's the kind of job that I don't want to see in progress on any of my boats; just call me when it's over, show me the end result (hopefully good) and send me the bill. What's next on the demolition schedule?
  12. Enjoying a perfect Rusty Nail (Drambuie and JW Blue) as my dessert after a wonderful dinner - - roast pork, sweet potato fries, fresh snap peas. Only thing missing is a good cigar. Life is good!
  13. Tell me about it. Mine is right outside the garage, and I have to walk past it 5 ~ 6 times a day. Beautiful up here today, too. But where was I ?? Cooped up in a hot shed, trying to make some order from the chaos.
  14. No wonder - - look how far the motors are trimmed. Certain boats with quads I can almost understand. Quints are a real stretch of practicality and/or safety.
  15. Hopefully not the bow of a supertanker, huh ?
  16. Not only will it mess up YOUR night vision, it will temporarily blind any other boaters on the water that the light hits. As Patrick said, use it very sparingly, go slow, and before turning the light on, rotate it so it shines downward a few meters in front of your own bow, then slowly raise it. A quick scan every minute or two should be sufficient. And I agree with the others - - the bow is the only practical location.
  17. That clinches it. Chris and Al are taking ALL REELBOATING.COM MEMBERS to the Abaco Summer Rendezvous, all expenses (including bar tabs) paid. Dang ~~ you guys are so lucky! All I ever get in my e-mail is offers to enlarge and enhance certain body appendages. None of which work. Don't ask me how I know.
  18. What's a monster like that cost? Think it would run on biodiesel? And how many gallons of Rotella for an oil change?
  19. Found some more info; apparently, there were 14 people on the boat, not 12 as originally reported ~~ PALM VALLEY - A pleasure boat carrying a group of friends returning from a Sunday outing Sunday at a St. Augustine restaurant slammed into an anchored tug in the Intracoastal Waterway, killing five and leaving nine others injured. A criminal investigation is underway involving the National Transportation Safety Board and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. Authorities would not discuss the nature of the investigation. Robert Trenton Craig, 23, of Jacksonville Beach, and Olivia Carretero, 23, of California, are among the dead, grieving family members told the Times-Union today. Authorities do not plan to identify any of the fatailities until all next of kin are notified, said Joy Hill, a spokeswoman for The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. Six people are recovering at Shands Jacksonville hospital. Two are in critical condition, one in serious and three are listed as fair, a hospital spokeswoman said. It's unclear whether the other three survivors are hospitalized. As many as seven of the victims were from the Jacksonville Beach area and five were from California. It's unknown where the other two are from. The only injured person Hill identified was the boat's owner, Melvin Don Bethel, 38 or 39, of Ponte Vedra Beach. Bethel was aboard the 22-foot Crownline when the 7:15 p.m., accident occurred a mile north of the Palm Valley bridge in St. Johns County. Bethel was not driving the boat, said a friend of the group. Hill would not discuss who was driving the boat. Bethel was hospitalized, but his condition is unknown. Authorities are still trying to determine whether alcohol, speed or other factors contributed to the wreck, which occurred after the group visited the Conch House restaurant in St. Augustine. The boat hit the 25-foot tug at high tide in part of the man-made channel that's no more than 100 yards wide, said U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Bobby Nash. Hill declined to say whether alcohol was found on the boat or if anyone aboard had been drinking. The boat left from the Beach Marine marina at Beach Bouelvard and the Intracoastal and was on its way back north when the accident occurred. Witnesses reported that a similar white boat with a blue stripe, whose passengers were spotted with bottles of vodka and dozens of beers, left the same marina Sunday morning in the direction of St. Augustine. It's unknown if the boats were the same. The area where the accident occurred also doesn't have a speed limit, though authorities can stop speeding boats driving recklessly. It is also not part of a manatee zone, where boats are required to slow as to not leave a wake, Nash said. The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a "go-team" of investigators to help the Commission investigate. The federal agency probes any commercial transportation accident. Its officials plan to hold a 3 p.m. press conference to discuss their efforts. The group had attended an afternoon of reggae music, a popular event known as Reggae Sunday at the restaurant. While at the restaurant, the group picked up two people who they took back with them, a friend was told by a survivor. The friend said he was told one of those boat hoppers was a woman who was driving when the accident occurred. Oshier said the 14 were riding in a boat with a capacity of 12 occupants. He said the group had previously always had a designated driver and insured that there were enough life jackets aboard to meet the boat’s capacity. He said the boat had been stopped several times in the past month by police, who were concerned about seeing so many people aboard and whether they had sufficient life jackets. Oshier said there had been no trouble. The boat struck the tug, which was alongside a barge that was helping build a dock for a home under construction. Two neighbors said it appeared that the boat made contact with the barge. “It just looked like the boat was kind of beached on the barge,” said Herb Davis, who watched some of the rescue effort through binoculars from his home down the street. Davis said the accident had already happened before he walked out onto his dock about 7:30 p.m. and saw emergency crews down the street and helicopters passing overhead. “There was a lot of moaning,” he said, adding he could hear distressed cries despite being several homes away. “It was very clear, this lady was screaming so loud,” he said.
  20. Amen on the Seriously, that was a classy gesture, Wiley. But totally unnecessary to apologize for the actions of some idiot who had nothing better to do than spam hundreds of web sites.
  21. From OrlandoSentinel.com 5 killed, 7 hurt in boat accident near Jacksonville Ron Word The Associated Press 9:47 AM EDT, April 13, 2009 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Authorities were investigating Monday why a power boat packed with 12 people slammed into a docked tug boat, killing five occupants of the pleasure craft and seriously injuring seven. The 22-foot power boat crashed into the rear of the tug at about 7 p.m. Sunday on the Intracoastal Waterway in St. Johns County, about 25 miles southeast of Jacksonville, said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Joy Hill. The Intracoastal Waterway runs along Florida's east coastline. Three of the injured were airlifted from the crash site and all seven were taken to area hospitals, she said. Hill was not sure whether those on the Crownline boat were tossed into the water during the crash. She said it doesn't appear anyone was aboard the 25-foot tug boat, which is registered to F&A Enterprises in St. Augustine. The victims' names have not been released. Hill said investigators were still trying to verify their identities. "Investigators are looking at anything that may have caused this," Hill said, including the speed and capacity of the boat, lighting conditions and whether alcohol may have been a factor. The boat was carrying 12 people, according to Jeremy Robshaw of the St. Johns County Fire and Rescue. He told The Florida Times-Union newspaper that three of those injured were in critical condition, with the others in stable condition. Robshaw said the pier was under construction and rescuers had to lay down planking before they could get to the crash victims. Herb Davis watched the rescue from the dock at his home down the street. "There was a lot of moaning," he told the newspaper. "It was very clear, this lady was screaming so loud," he said. ~~~~~~~ Curious to find out more details. Any of you Jax-area folks have more? Is it just me, or does 12 people on a 22 footer sound a little excessive?
  22. Amen! I've been watching CNN... more details are coming out. Apparently, the SEALs were parachuted into the ocean under the cover of darkness and out of sight of the pirates, then made their way to the Navy ship Bainbridge. Some time today, the Bainbridge took the disabled lifeboat in which the hostage was being held under tow, ostensibly to tow it into calmer waters. The SEALs took up positions on the faintail of the Bainbridge, only about 25-40 meters in front of the lifeboat. Then the bad guys made the mistake of showing themselves. Three SEALs each fired one shot, taking out all three pirates. Justice triumphs. God bless the SEALs.
  23. I wish I had; had to work this morning, then was running "honey-do" errands when I saw the boat. Ramp parking lot was packed, and loads of boats out there.....without me.
