  1. I'll second the Hydrasport. The also look at would include Sailfish and Edgewater.
  2. My knees hurt just watching those videos. The QRV looked like a huge jet ski with the jet drive pushing her. I'm not sure I'd have the balls to run that close to the beach even if I could.
  3. I see a lot of advantages to an aluminum alloy boat. Not asking these questions to bash, just trying to learn. There seem to be areas where "metal boats" are vastly more popular like Alaska, Washington, Maine, etc and other areas where you never see one like the Southeast. Why is that? I know a lot of folks spend a lot of time and money so they can leave their boats in the water but its a rarity for mine to be more than two nights in the water, especially in the summer. Most of the paints don't seem to last more than a year. With the aluminum allow boat do most of the berthers paint over or do they have to sand off? Every see any electrolysis issues? I'm thinking about the battery charger or shore power horror stories you hear about from time to time. Are there any no-nos as far as chemicals? Thinking of bleach on the deck or muriatic acid on the hull. I've read that there's a protective coating that gets applied to the aluminum alloy. So if battery acid is spilled on it and eats it off , how do you "recoat" it? Ever see a weld bust? I know I'm amazed the joints on my T-top are all intact. Is that a matter of quality or construction design? I appreciate you taking the time to educate us.
  4. Wait until they have you drink that stuff in the green bottle. Worse than the milkshake IMHO.
  5. I know several folks that have E-tec outboards and they have nothing but good things to say about them. BRP is a good company with a lot of technical backing. No matter what brand you look at you need to assess the local service for that brand. Buy a Yammie, a Merc, Suzzu, Honda or any brand and sooner or latter you'll need maintenance. That's the biggest issue some of the brands have is they have a strong following in some areas but not in others.
  6. Her association with the moonwalking boy, eight marriages and the AIDS fund raising thing kind of tainted my memories of her.
  7. If you look at the 21 Contender get the optional bait well. The standard bait well in the floor about a foot forward of the transom. A pain to get bait out of and keeps the floor wet under certain conditions. The 23 is the same unless you go with the tourney which is really a 25. Edgewater, Onslow and Seacraft would be on my short list.
  8. Get on the turnpike at Ft. Pierce. Bring plenty of quarters. World Wide Sportsman is a nice stop in Islamorada. Mango Mikes for breakfast in Islamarada if you can time it out right. Kitchen sink omelet. About 10 miles North of Marathon on Grassy Key, The Wreck. Good food, REAL casual. Onion encrusted grouper. About 15 miles South of Marathon on No Name Key, No Name Pub. Have the pizza. The BBQ place right on US1 in Marathon is good. Turn on the road next to the BBQ place and ride to the Gulf. Sandwich restaurant for lunch right on the water. Next to the Publix - Goofy Gecko and Lazy Lizard - small shops with some unique stuff. Brass Monkey Bar and Liquor store is right across the side street coming out of Publix. Fairly nice beach at the end of that street. Winds through a bunch of residential area. You'll think you're lost. Island Fish Co. right before the Key Colony entrance. If you haven't been to Key West you need to ride down and stay one night.
  9. It's probably not as bad as it might seem. There are several spots that I've fished that you can throw 10' on either side of where you should throw and you seldom get a bite. Other spots that if you fish too high or too low your odd decrease. I remember fishing a spot that I had fished with someone and I couldn't remember the tide we fished it on. I sat there on the same spot for about 6 hours until the fish showed up. There are a bunch of folks that will go to the numbers and fish them wrong and they'll move back to spots where they know how to fish. The kind of person that will actually spend time learning how to fish a spot probably would have found those spots eventually just by riding by and seeing you fish there. This guy obviously had some reason for doing what he did. Doesn't seem considerate to the other guides and a clear violation of the code ("more what you'd call 'guidelines' than actual rules") so I suspect there's more to the story, if you know what I mean.
  10. I think it could use a slightly sharper entry and some flare on the bow.
  11. It is a nice looking boat. The good thing about the transom design is that it will let out water quickly if you take a wave over the bow or side and you are moving. Not as likely with a cuddy but more of a open bow issue. The downside is taking a wave from the stern especially if you're disabled (one engine increases that possibility). You can build a bulkhead to contain the wave coming over the stern but as wide as the opening is on that boat you would either have to use a metal plate or brace it in the middle which would be a pain to do right. I'd pass unless you got a steal of a deal and maybe even then.
  12. Wiley, Thanks for all you do with the RB site. I know it's a lot of work. Paul BTW - That other Wiley fellow has got a nice product too, but your's is more in my price range
  13. Looks good now. Thank you for all your efforts with RB.
  14. The number displayed is "epoch". This is the number of seconds since 1/1/1970 GMT. 1284063742 / 60 = 21,401,062.3667 minutes 21,401,062.3667 / 60 = 356,684.372778 hours 356,684.372778 / 24 = 14,861.8488657 days 14,861.8488657 / 365.25 = 40.6895246152 years 1970 + 40 = 2010 365 * .6895246152 = 251.676484548 days 31 (J) + 28 (F) + 31 (M) + 30 (A) + 31 (M) + 30 (J) + 31 (J) + 31 (A) = 243 days 1/1/2010 - 9/1/2010 251 - 243 = 8 (9/1, 9/2, 9/3, 9/4, 9/5, 9/6, 9/7, 9/8) So it's 9/9/2010 24 * .676484548 = 16.235629152 So it the 16:00 hour (4pm) You've got to add back in our current 5 hour difference from GMT making it 21:00 (9pm) 60 * .235629152 = 14.13774912 So the minutes is 14 - suppose to be 04 but the accuracy of my calculator probably isn't all that good. Wiley, Please fix this because I've worn out three calculators since this problem began
  15. The timing sticks. Hope it clears up for you. I visited Singapore about 30 years ago and I'm quite sure that it has changed quite a bit since then. The things that stuck in my memory were the alley way markets between 10+ story buildings, walking down a street that had a four star restaurant and a couple of hundred feet away was a guy cooking in a wok on top of a galvanized trash can and paying about $35 for a fifth of Jack Black. I would love to make a return visit but I can't stomach the thought of that much time in the air.
  16. Maybe he'll start a trend.. Some of my favorite obits - http://keysnews.com/recent_obituaries They are typically more personal than the ones you see in your local paper.
  17. Cooter probably hit it right on the head. Sometimes bubbles produced by the chines will keep the transducer from sending or receiving the signals. You may have to move it to fix that. Look for as flat an area as you've got. If it's a dual frequency make sure its on the right one (192/200Mhz for shallow and 50Mhz for deep water). Depending on how close the transducer is mounted to the prop you can get enough turbulence to interfere with the transducer. On some units there is an issue with automatic sensitivity in shallow water. You can turn off the automatic sensitivity and manually adjust the sensitivity if that's the case. I mounted my transducer on a piece of Starboard that I screwed into the transom and sealed with 5200. This allows me to move, replace, etc without having to poke more holes into the transom below the waterline.
  18. I still pull out Supernatural every once in a while and listen to it. Other than one rap song on it I think it's probably one of the best collaboration albums every produced.
  19. Makes me want to go find a politician to slap!!
  20. A few suggestions to make things better: 1. Build hanging gallows in the mall in DC. Any idiot that votes for a law or signs a presidential order creating another committee or commission - drag them out there and hang them on the spot and leave their body there to feed the buzzards. 2. Repeal the Seventeenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. This was a major blow to the rights of the States. It sounded good - we should be able to vote for who we want in the Senate. But the reality is the reason the framers of the constitution set it up that way was to make sure the States as an entity had a voice. We, the individual people, already have a voice in the form of our House representative and collectively through the President. 3. Give electro shock therapy to anyone in a government agency that mentions the word "Catch Shares".
  21. Roger that!! I flew over to meet the Indy in 77 and she tore off about 150' of the catwalk on the way over. Glad I missed that ride. Worst that I ever rode out was some solid 50s in the North Atlantic aboard the Ike. We used to go through 10-20 footer with only a few degrees of pitch or roll and look over to see our escorts take 30 degrees or so.
  22. If you've got the usual amount of smoke and the engine hasn't slung a piston through the side yet I would guess it's probably more of a sensor issue than a pump issue. Either way its probably a good investment to let a qualified mechanic look at it. Has the oil level in the tank gone down any or have you run it enough to tell?
  23. You have my sympathy for sure. It's always sad to see someone so young loose their life. I've gotten to the point where I don't even like to get on I-95. Too many nuts that think its a racetrack mixed with idiots trying to text.
