  1. Side by side picture of Tiara with the Bertram 36 Moppie I fish on. Not the best picture, but should give you an idea... Auguste, if you don't want my input, please tell me. I'm not trying to down your last choice...not sure if you have ever really seen one up close and personal. Link to me releasing a billfish from the Bertram...I can barely keep the fish in the water without someone grabbing my feet and holding me. Just something to consider. http://reelboating.com/forums/?showtopic=1976
  2. By the way, the Tiara I rode on a few times was fast as hell, but bumpy. It had full tower, looked like it was built well, but I will reiterate that it wasn't really a fishing boat in the sense that others are. Take it for what it is worth.
  3. lol Are you naive enough to think that was my dad? If you don't want advice from someone who has ridden on Tiaras a few times (65 miles each way, every time I was on one) then don't listen to me. Have you stepped in the cockpit of one to see how high it sits out of the water? Ever tried to release a fish from one? Do you have any input, TimW from Texas?
  4. Cool keep the suggestions coming... just ordered a pack for the girlfriend... well, it is larger than the one I currently have so I might be giving her that one and using the one I just ordered....we will see.
  5. Those Tiaras sure look pretty, but they are not really fishing boats...in my opinion.
  6. Hoping the weather cooperates... Heard the billfish have been out in force earlier this week...hopefully we will find one or three. anyone else going?
  7. So why have different classes of anglers? Why not just have "Boat" category and be done with it. You guys are really stretching it. She did well, but she can not be credited with the catch....it is akin to baseball players breaking records while on steroids...it just isn't the same.
  8. Mallory and I drank all the beer in the fridge and used some gas that was outside in the boat last night....can you grab me a case o' beer on the way home and run up to the Outpost to get some gas? Thanks.
  9. is this the boat that is/was kept at Toler's? If so, good looking boat...I pass by it on occasion when fishing with Slay Ride
  10. Cool, thanks Was looking at sites and Graveyard Falls was one, I think...or trail...or something like that. I've been buying camping/hiking stuff for the past 2 weeks and I intend to put it to use. www.steepandcheap.com is my friend/enemy
  11. I never said it wasn't possible, but the article makes it a point to mention that the fish wasn't moving and the dad came over to help. In my book, unless the angler fights the fish from beginning to end with no help (other than a mate handing the rod over to angler when fish is first on, thinking offshore trolling here) then the catch can not go to a single person. I'm not questioning the rules of this "derby" or whatever.....just the integrity of it all, I guess.
  12. Hey, I would like to start hiking some....never done it, but do camp a lot. Probably going to start small....Pisgah and the like, but ultimately, I would like to actually hike up a mountain and set up camp off the beaten path (not a campsite, if that is possible). Just looking for 3 day, 2 night type stuff. Anybody do much of this? Any recommendations?
  13. I've never caught one and that is a nice one you got. That is why I was asking. Do you really think a 6 year old could "catch" this fish enough to say she actually caught it? I don't. And my peeve doesn't stem from this, but watching 6-8 year olds getting awards in IGFA enforced rule tournaments that deal with catching 40+ pound fish while using 50 wides....
  14. understood, but she didn't really catch the fish. just my opinion.
  15. I guess ReelBoating members don't like conversation? Is this the touchy/feely site for fishing? Like I said in my original post....good job for her, but she didn't really catch the fish. Simple as that....if any of you can prove otherwise, let me know. The article says she hooked the fish, but it wasn't moving....so what then? She hooks the fish and then has help reeling it all the way up? Dad probably did most of the work, but yet it is she who gets the prize? Get out of here.
  16. you going to cry about it? I was just asking. It is dishonest to say she caught the fish if she had help. Simple as that.
  17. Summer time is the best for quantity...at least every summer we go down there it is.
  18. the angler catches the fish why not pass the rod off to each member on the boat and pick a straw at whoever will say they "caught" it. If there is a junior category, say the junior caught it...if there is a ladies category, say the ladie caught it...blah blah blah.
  19. it was a tournament how can she be credited with the catch when she had help?
  20. nice job, but one question remains....and it always does When I see small kids at awards ceremonies that caught big fish with huge reels accepting awards as they caught fish all by themselves, I always wonder about that. Now, I know many kids that can and do do that all by themselves, but I'm talking about small tykes... this article says she had help from her father, but still credits her with the catch. I don't understand that part.
  21. She didn't get it We got 4th dolphin (points only) and third (small amt of money) a lot of boats must have cancelled as the payouts were dismal. Oh well....next SCSSA tournament is in July....Wahoo tournament. Should be interesting.
  22. sweet good luck we sold our boat recently...the money has been in our account for 2 weeks and the boat is still sitting in our yard...
  23. Fished a local tournament this past Saturday...weather was rough for a 23' boat, but we managed. ended up with 8 dolphin, a couple of cudas released and a double header of sails...both released. Had something hit 15 mins before lines out and fought it for about 45 minutes...Angler thinks it was a pretty big wahoo. Peeled about 3-400 yards off an Int'l 30W with drag set at about 11lbs....pulled the hook and we think it had something to do with the 10lbs of weed the line collected through the ordeal. Oh well... Got back to weigh the fish in and we briefly had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd dolphin before 3 boats after us weighed in. Our dolphin was 3rd when we left. Hopefully, my gf will get lady angler...she caught our biggest dolphin in between being sick.
