  1. Here is my dilema. My outboard is too big for my boat in a couple of ways. When boat is in water 3to 4 inches of free board at stern.2 with 21 pitch prop I pass jetskis, and I am getting older the faster I go the more nerveous I get. Even with down sizing from 21 to 19 pitch I can run with jetskis.

So I am looking at a swap for a 70 to 85 hp outboard with same style controls that I have on my Center console. That means Binnacle mount. For those that don't know Binnacle controls are mounted in the Center console .Not on the side with box and cables exposed.Contacting me is easy.My email is truklodyte@yahoo.com

The boat being show was my restoration project she is very light 4 men can pick up boat and walk off with it without engine on it.

I have used craigslist and all I get there is fraudulent offers with a website attached with a virus.

  2. I am help a friend out . He is selling his military rebuilt GM diesel 353 engine. This engine came out of a Gama goat. This durable engine can easily be changed over to marine use or put into a yard donkey for moving boats around. She currently has a GM(chevy)4 speed transmission on it. She is Aluminum block with steel head. She also has a small super charger on it as well.He would like $2000 OBO .Location Panama city FL

  3. This is a curious thread, to me.

As a hobby to support my fishing/boating habit, I've been buying old junkers and either fixing them for resale or parting them out. Couldn't make a living out of it, but it pays for my stuff.

It seems to me that a lot of people do this in the mid-atlantic area. I usually have to strike fast when I find a good deal or it gets snatched up!

    -TH

Not really its mainly from your region to the new england states(maine, conn,RI,Ma,VT,NH) as well . Dow here in Florida its a different story .Alot of the people will have an old boat sitting for years in the back yard. The minute you show interest they want top dollar for it .I have seen many boats go to landfill because the price was so steep. They would rather pay the $30 a ton to landfill than sell it to you cheap. These are all sizes boat 10ft to over 50ft.

  4. It could be but I think that is too far in, isn't there a standard for position of the HIN?

All of my other boats it is in the same spot on the top right corner.

I will get into it this weekend and see what I can find.

    Rick

older boats like mine either had a riveted plate with numbers inside boat on transom or stringer or someplace that is not readily seen.

  5. The aluminum on the transom is an add on I am sure, I would bet the transom is soft underneath. That is why I want to try to pin down the brand to see if it is worth putting all the work into it to fix it up. Someone did put a LOT of work into that transom support, it is all welded in the form that you see. Any ideas on where I might look for any kind of identifiers? As I said there is no hull number but any other places there might be a name or number?

    Rick

It may be under the aluminum plate.

  6. Thanks, I will take any info I can get. I had checked for the hot foot since that what was on my racing boats but I don't see any evidence of one. I am going to clean it out and try to get some better pictures.

    Rick

Rick what I did find out is it is a racing Ski boat Hp rating is apt to be high.

  7. Joe average will be the one restoring or rebuilding their boat so labor cost has no real bearing. The person that is paying to have their boat remodeled would be the people to sell your product to.As for the product I represent it can be for commercial and residentual applications.MunuteMan Boat lifts of Plymouth mass http://mmbhe.com/listings/class_search.pl?...=DOCKSIDE+LIFTS

As for cost It is cheaper than your product as Joe average goes.A lot of manufacturers and suppliers of high density foam products will deliver directly to customer.

  8. LAst year had electric fuel pump on boat worked great until the ethyl alcohol ate pump.So I rebuilt the fuel pump on motor worked for about and hour then lost half of throttle thus lost speed.Carbs were rebuilt last year. Looked for vaccum leak none detected .She is the 4 cylinder model with idle speed she runs on two cylinders..Please give a clue to whats going on?

  9. The Einstein of the fish world may be the nine-spined stickleback, suggests new research that determined this common European fish possesses an unusually sophisticated capacity for learning not yet documented in any other animal, aside from humans.

The unassuming, small-headed fish proves tiny brains can yield "surprising cognitive abilities," according to project leader Jeremy Kendal, whose team discovered the stickleback can compare the behavior of other fish with its own experiences in order to make better choices.

This learning method, known as "hill-climbing," is necessary for cumulative culture and was thought to be unique to humans.

"Cases such as nut-cracking in chimpanzees, or tool use in New Caledonian crows, are potentially consistent with such a strategy, but the strategy has yet to be shown unambiguously (in these other animals)," Kendal, a Durham University anthropologist, told Discovery News.

For the study, published in the journal Behavioral Ecology, he and his colleagues caught 270 nine-spined sticklebacks in Leicester, England. The fish were organized into experimental groups. These fish groups then took turns as either free swimmers in a tank with worm-yielding feeders at the end, or as "learners" in a transparent, partitioned-off area of the specially designed tank.

    aoc power leveling

One of the two feeders released more worms than the other. The fish quickly gravitated to this "rich feeder." When these fish then went into the observation semi-circle portion of the tank, the researchers swapped the feeders. The new free swimmers, as before, made a beeline for the feeder with a more plentiful worm reward.

When the observation fish group was released back into the part of the tank with the feeders, 75 percent were "clever" enough to know from watching the other sticklebacks that the feeders had been switched, so they didn't just rely upon their own experience with the feeders.

    archlord gold

Additional research conducted by the same team of scientists found that the likelihood of copying the behavior of another increased with the rate at which this other individual fed. The fish aren't therefore just mindlessly copying each other. They are instead "being selective about when and who they copy."

Kendal thinks the nine-spined stickleback might have been "forced to learn" this rather complex strategy because the species is scrawnier than many other fish, with an anatomy that doesn't offer significant protection from predators. Instead of risking being eaten while searching for food, it benefits the fish to find out exactly where the best sources are at ahead of time and to go directly to them.

"It is possible that, rather than evolve to become more sturdy, it is less costly for the nine-spines to evolve the capacity to exploit foraging information provided by observing others," he explained, mentioning that tougher three-spined sticklebacks don't seem to have such a brainy solution to foraging challenges.

Culum Brown, a University of Edinburgh researcher and editor of the book "Fish Cognition and Behavior," told Discovery News, the study "shows that fishes are using a mixture of their own knowledge and weighing it up against cultural information."

"In many ways," Brown said, "fish are just as smart as other animals."

While fish seem to exhibit frequent flashes of mental brilliance, the stickleback's hill-climbing strategy has yet to result in more human-like, high-tech capabilities, probably because fish habitats are so unstable.

"A massive constraint for the fish is that the environment can change rapidly, so information about a good foraging site can become redundant after a short time," Kendal said. "This resets the cumulative process and the fish have to start again acquiring new information."

"This means we might not expect any spectacular cumulative cultural evolution like seen in humans," he said, "but watch this space. We know so little and are constantly surprised about what they can do!"

  10. I strongly agree with you on the recycling issue. BUT This culture is completely different to any other culture on the world, mainly because of the purchasing power we have.

I came from a 3rd world country, where you HAVE to recycle, because NEW it's either TOO EXPENSIVE or it does not get there because its imported.

You would not imagine the things I've seen done to cars, boats, homes, equipment, you name it!!!!

I've heard that CUBA is still using 1960 Russian cars!!! and they keep recycling them.

The good thing about that it's that your brain gets used to find alternatives all the time, gets more flexible, and you get used to think "outside the box".

My father used to tell me "necessity is the mother of all the abilities"

But here it does not work like that... I brought that "fix everything over and over" mentality to this country and soon realized that its not cost effective.

To follow with your example on the lawn mower.... when I bought my home I got a small yard to mow. My financial situation was not the best, so I got me a lawn mower on a garage sale. That stupid thing drove me crazy!!! It took me forever to mow my grass, because every time i use it I had to do something else to it.... the self propel thing never worked and I had to push the stupid thing, so I had to work most of my Sunday on the yard and was totally soar on Monday when I had to go to work, cursing myself and asking where the hell went the weekend.

I finally got tired, went to home depot and got me a new one. Never a single problem again. What it used to be a nightmare before and used to take forever, now its a fairly enjoyable task. Now, the new mower is so much smother, "really" self propelled, and easy to start, that while I'm doing the edges, my wife is mowing.

Some times is not really cost effective to keep fighting, and in the long term, the time, money, effort invested in fixing is not worth it.

The down side is that the brain gets LAZY, and at one point you prefer not to THINK, because it's easier to go to HD and buy new instead of wondering and solving a minor (or major) problem.

Also some times the resources needed to fix and old boat (for example) does not guarantee that you will not have problems with some other thing in the near future, and you keep fixing and fixing and fixing.

    JMO...

let me show you how my friends resourcefulness takes place. Here is a 25ft aquasport with inboard diesel. One problem aquasport never used Diesels or inboards.I am also showing the original V6 185 johnson he took off.Recycling is still the best option. Necessity is the mother of invention. Most push mowers that end up on the side of road need sparkplug, airfilter and a good cleaning.Simply buying one at a yardsale means you paid to much.

  11. That would be NJ bureaucracy! :1143_neener_neener_neener:

Post pictures of boats with out Identification.Someone here may be able to tell you what it is.

No manufacturer plate or numbers stamped into the transom on right side top corner near rubrail.Depending upon state(example Florida Altering boat 51% get retitled under homemade boat)

Check with each state laws governing boats there is always a legal hoop you can jump thru with little or no extra payment.Leans and levies (ex) Storage fees unpaid, Abandonment no way to contact previous owner,) Again check with your state .Florida it can be easy and hard.

Oddly enough a lot of boats were manufacturerd out in Arizona ,Arkansa because of dry climate. So you find some pretty wierd names.Molds for boats may have numerous manufacturers on the same boat. Please post pictures of recycled boats.Like these recycled projects My boat was manufactured in Arkansa for Gulf marine it is a 18ft gulf master,Century makes one, shakespear makes one,and the one big flats fishing boat maker makes one all from the same mold. The other is a recycled surf board

  12. I run ALLOY...........................

Don't even mention recycle . I hope my boat , SKINTBACK, doesn't see this thread.

Fiberglass boats cannot be made into reefs.Wood, steel and aluminum boats can be made into reefs.

Just as cars it takes elbow grease to restore. We live in a throw away age. Here is an example I am a junk man I get paid to haul off what is called junk.Man buys new lawnmower because old one will not start.New plug and new airfilter and I sold it for $25.oo.For ten dollars in clean up previouse owner paid 180 dollars and got a new one.Throw away age Its not the way but the reason.

Seriousely new car even a cheap one 12,000 dollars a 20 ft boat will exceed that.Buy a one to 5 year old car . A lttle work Maintenace .Same with a boat Maintenance, thats all it is .The average american doesn't know which end of the wrench to use so they let a little problem become a big one.Its time to change that attitude.I am mechanically inclined I can do glass work ,engine work and most of all I can read and ask questions .Most of you can do the same.

The only reason I need a newer vehicle mine is dieing of cancer and is literally falling apart . It can be recycled by melting it down.As for a boat it can be cut and reshaped or disassembled and cut up for panels to use on another boat. Where my boat was rebuilt they did just that cut up a 25 footer to repair a thirty foot sailboat.

Now for the boats without titles . If a mechanic seizes a vehicle without a title he can petion the state and get a title for it. Why can't they do it to some of the abandoned vessels along the ICW or coves.

  13. How many here still have the older boat ?

Why go out and buy a brand new boat when it looses value as soon as it leaves a dealership.

It can be very cheap to refurbish an older boat and to repower it to.

Or go buy the boat that someone can't afford and are selling just to get rid of payments.Or just find a refurbished boat.

I am not suggesting you do anything. If you can afford to buy brand new do so.

When you drive down the road look at all the boats along the side of road with grass growing up around it and in it.Most of these boats are in very good shape just neglected.I drive a big truck and generally I can look over the high fences you would be amazed at the boats I see.In the back yards 30 ft or bigger just sitting because they don't have a vehicle to pull it or launch it.

I am venting at what I see being an avid boater and rebuilder .Its ashame to see something go unused!

  14. Why is it so hard to get a merc 115 fuel pump rebuild kit with two right angle elbow for oil injection?

The Kit for the single elbow being slightly different I can get all day no problem.

As you can see the grey house coming in is the fuel in .The two elbows are the oil injection lines and on the right is the fuel line out. They put two different fuel pumps on this engine.Pictures shown is what I have. The other has a single injection line .

  15. I just resently converted a sailboard to standup paddleboard. Well it works just not with a 280 man standing up on it. I took a fall today on it and I have come to the conclusion that it needs to find a new home with someone 190 or less .

I am in Panama city Fl. I am not looking for a dollar amount. I just want two saltwater fly rods w/reels preferably 9 an 10 weight float line and sink lines.Make not important.Or just make me an offer. email me and we can schedule a viewing. Thank you for your time.

  16. I am helping my elderly neighbor empty his yard of projects he no longer can finish all .Boats are located in Panama city.I will post them forsale in the forsale section.I am a packrat but he has me beat hands down .Here is some pictures just to show what he has got going on.Put it this way his house looks like a marine repair yard. There is engines, outdrives(merc, volvo, etc)in the spare bedroom of house,a bunch of sailboats from 22 to 45ft,cabin cruisers 4,bow riders 2 now, parts galour.

The house boat is longer and wider than it was manufactured to be. Cabin is high density foam .For foam construction it is strong like steal.

  17. 35ft chris craft with twin 6.2 liter diesel GM.V drives.Vessel is located in Panama city Fl near pretty bayou.Boat is equiped with marine AC so she is cool and comfortable. She is set up a day fishing.Sorry trailer doesn't go with boat.

Boat is currently in dry dock with engines out for engine room refit.Engines can be bench run upon request.Price is $30,000 The way she sits .If we finish refit price will go up and she will be in the water at a higher price.
