  1. I've heard the bombers go deeper than the stretches. One of my friends gave me two of his plugs and he uses a rapala with a 10 ounce trolling weight ahead of the leader. I also have a couple of stretch 25's. I've never trolled for grouper before so it will be a learning curve. Figure I better catch some of the endangered species before they close them down next year.

We were in 45 feet trolling 30+ divers in pink color. Hard bottom spots. Had four of these gags on double hook ups. Have about 10 pounds of grouper in the freezer. Cobia have been good too lately. Can't go wrong with trolling plugs right now. Just find hard bottom and troll figure eights over the spot.

  2. Forgot the smiley face at the end of my post. I'm sure it runs great and it looks even better. Not sure that I would want to throw a bloody fish in it but I'm sure the Nortech folks would be happy to build one more "fishy" if that is what the customer wanted.

not at all, drove beautifully. I actually liked it better than their 43 NorTech CC which is based off the 43 go-fast bottom with a 9' beam. This boat has a 10' beam, and tracked tight turns without any problem. Check these video's out.

  3. Last Saturday. I was running in from the Gulf with 100 other boats out enjoying the holiday weekend. Got a little impatient passing a pontoon (last red before Hell's gate) and it put me on a bad line on a turn in the river. Made a bad decision and came off the throttles a little. When I did it put me in a bow steer situation and I almost spun out in the middle of the channel with lots of boats around me. I have no idea how I saved it but we did not spin or worse. My wife was thrown off the leaning post into the gunnel hard. She was laying on the floor not moving or speaking for quite a while and I could not go to her as I had to keep the boat in the channel and out of other boats ways. It was the most helpless feeling I have ever experienced. When she got up she called me lots of things I can't repeat here. Thank God she was not thrown over. Boat went back on the trailer. Now I remember why I don't go out on holiday weekends.

  4. Thanks,

I noticed that on Evinrudes test report for the 26SS with 150 Etecs that they were mounted in hole number two. Not sure how close the Opti and Etec are size wise but I get better speed and fuel numbers. I'm getting a occasional TPI error at idle so while it is in the shop I'll have them moved up. Can't hurt to try.

    TR,

Damn good question! Sometimes I wondered about our "test team"...

    :471_confused_face:

I'd raise them 2 holes, like you said, and see what she does. I'm kind of surprised, though, as I can't think of any model or engine combination where we mount in the top hole (all the way down). Could have been a dealer rig... :504_shrugging:

  5. Now for another question.

Why are my engines mounted all the way down?

Last weekend the gulf was so smooth you could water ski out 50 miles. First time I have had the chance to open the boat up and let her run. Ran her up to 4000 rpm's and started trimming out. Watched the speed and fuel flow and it did not change. Looked out back and the cav plates were buried. Looks like I could move the engines up two holes with no problems.

Boat jumps on plane, sips fuel and I have no performance complaints but if it would run better...............
