Another trick I heard some years ago is to cut pieces of plastic soda straws to the length you need to cover the connection. Slip them over the wires and then solder the connection. After the solder cools, slip the pieces of the staws over the connection and fill the pieces with silicone caulk. It is not as professional looking as heat shrink crimps but works very well.

If you don't mind used, you might try watching craigslist.org. I found one in great condition, used very little for $700 locally. Look in the tools section or farm and garden. By the way, I talked to Ed at Wisesales before I bought the used generator and he was by far the best price I could find on a new one.

Bob, Yep, I'm still around. Retirement isn't quite what I thought, I'm having to work a little harder than I planned. Kathy and I will absolutely come to your get together if we are in town. Right now we are spending a few weeks in Fl. We are planning on coming back this weekend but we may not make it in time for your get together. Business has slowed so we took some time off.
