  1. I usually do, although not on the boats I have now. I couldn't tell a difference in speed on my old boats that I waxed below th e water line. Hotspot is correct though it can slow you down. I raced sail boats for many years and we actually pulled the boat and rough sanded the bottom before cup races. The sanded bottom produced tiny air bubbles that aided in speed. This was very important since fractions of a second count when racing.
