I'm heading to Vermont again in August and will be fishing for several days on the Inland Sea portion of Lake Champlain. My in-laws (their place) have a 14' Aluminum boat we use to get around; I'm considering getting an inexpensive sonar for it in the hopes we can start to ID some major structures to fish or a particularly productive depth. I had a GPS with lake chart last year but with the limited range of the little boat we only had a few charted points of interest to fish. Any experience or tips on these units? I might possibly try using one on my sea kayak later but that's unlikely and probably shouldn't be part of my criteria looking.
