  1. I went briefly on Thursday. It was a great show from my perspective, in terms of size and the quality of offerings. One of the things I most noticed is finally seeing some realistic selling prices of used boats in the 40 to 70 foot segment. Also managed a trip to Venture factory the Tuesday before, that 39 is sweet!
  2. Byng give me your best guess on the new (triple) 300s for the Venture 39 - or is the (triple) 350 yammy package the way to go?
  3. If your boat is the Generation 1 Venture 34 Hull like mine is I have to think this will be the PERFECT power for this boat.... fired up so see the performance #s when they come out...
  4. I think those big CC buyers are people that like to fish and have the money but dont want the operating expense and large footprint of the Big convertibeles. YOu dont need a captain for those big CC's - the systems are very simple and they can somewhat comfortably, quickly, economically put you and your anglers into the pelagic zone and catch all the big pelagics as effectively as the big boys. That being said all boats are expensive relative to people's purchasing power these days because like others have said raw material costs are still very high, thanks to the demand from China and the other BRICs.... Hopefully those prices will cool and manufacturers can cut their cost of goods sold....which should translate in lower prices for us..
  5. How has the reliability of these been? I have always wanted them but have been fearful of breakage and the ensuing inability to get them serviced.. Bow mount is tough for fly fishing - It works great maneuvaribility wise but tangles with the fly line when you shoot alot...
  6. Boston Whaler Montauk 17. great boat for what it was!
  7. Maiden Striper voyage last night headed over to Hempstead harbor area and fished the flood for about 3 hrs last night, very slow for us, marked a few bunker but that was it. Only saw one fish taken from about 8 boats in the vicinity... Glad you did better Fly!
  8. Posts: 270 Oh, really? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In reading your recent post, it appears that you'd like a refund on your way out the door: And, yeah, I am listening. __________________ Mod 4 Thats what I got after I blasted their attempts to push people around. Note the "I don't give a F" in the tone of this response from the Mod. Wiley, correct me if I am wrong but a site is only as good as the intellectual capacity of the people who post? So why drive people away? I think you understand that and I also think people respect you, and thats why this operation is going to work. And that other site SHOULD be concerned but isn't as the exodus continues.... I like it here.
  9. What Yard at PP? My boat is in the shed in the south yard...Hope to be in by the weekend also for the trip west
  10. Boat is at YH East - office overlooks the harbor. Days like today it is very hard to focus. Summer months I sometimes spend an hour on the boat tinkering before I get to work... often return smelling of Woody wax and such...like you said.. Sometimes I will cast net some bunker before work but that requires a shower after lololol Very fortunate we are being close to our boats - thank goodness the season is here....
  11. Hey Bob glad to hear she is IN! I go in in about a week - will be in Fla for a while in the meantime. Actually going to look at some boats down there - see if I can find a bargain somewhere on an express. Whats the name of your boat again? see you on the water!
  12. I wish I could tell you - MOD 4 was reasonable but Super Mod 13 was all intrusive. Maybe someone knows? Are those guys paid? I just don't get it.
  13. Hey Rich et al, OP Gus etc.. The only thing I can add in the defense of the brokers is that for the past 6 months boat sellers have been smoking crack for what they wanted for their boats and buyers were on hold. Those that were around knew prices would come in and I can just see how many times their chains were jerked in the past 6 months. So why they are not returning your calls- prob b/c the last 200 calls resulted in NOTHING. Not making excuses but I can just see it - tire kicker buyers and unrealistic sellers with very few boats trading. I am entering the fray and will report my findings - I am only doing so because sellers are FINALLY being a bit more realistic in the past month or so.... I am guessing that on that front more calls will be returned in the coming months as transactions pick up
  14. Brad, Good advice from Patrick - you really want nothing touching your beautiful paint if you can help it. Also part of this discussion is how the boat will lay in the slip - what are the prevailing winds? SW and you do get the occaisonal N or NE in the summer. I have low lying protection from the dock that contacts the boat near the waterline to reduce chafe on the hull. I spent ALOT of time messing with lines so they in effect draw the boat way from the finger. The result is unless the wind is SMOKIN the hull rarely chafes against the dock - and that protection is there more for landings/departures. That being said I always look to buy those fleece fender covers - I never seem to find em. they are way popular with the Hinckley crowd - and I think for good reason. BillFish OUT
  15. SPOT ON! Chris - whats the slowest you can plane at? I have a tough time at 18 knots on my boat which is the max I want to run at night offshore. Inshore I run a bit quicker at night.... To the OP : save the time and $$$ and get a cig lighter handheld that you can stow away. One less thing to maintain rather than remount what you have. Leave it there???? I run a handheld trying to verify things like markers or moored boats
  16. Toxic is right! but glad to hear business is still vibrant for you. Hopefully some free time opens up for you as well.... And I think you are right - this could really take off and be bigger than the original. See you around
  17. Longtime lurker on Wileys first endeavor - just started posting in the past year or so. Now over here. The MODS ticked me off over there. It's nice to see so many good "eggs" over here. Looks great so far!
  18. Havn't seen much of you over "there" Big Al- doneski?
  19. Boat is docked in Stamford 150 yards from my office , live in Rowayton. Just signed up today - looking forward to the new site. Good Luck Wiley !
