  1. Posted - 04/16/2009 : 13:39:20 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guys - Just got the call from my marine mechanic. My tach needle has not been operable since I got the motor, and it wasn't on the guy's boat from whom I bought the motor either. Mechanic traced the problem to the rectifier at the motor. I guess a rectifier is one of those parts that you don't fix - you replace it. He said the part lists for over $200 in his book. Question - is the rectifier a "plug and play" replacement - i.e. - could I find one on-line and switch it out myself? I am mechanically inclined, but by no means an outboard mechanic. From what I have "researched" so far today, it looks like it might be a pretty straightforward replacement? Thanks for any insite - Dave
  2. Coincidentally, I just purchased a new handheld spot this morning on-line. After several years of frustration due to buying the cheapo Chinese models and having them crap out annually for one reason or another, I decided that it was an important enough item to find a high-quality product...still didn't want to break the bank, but I wanted something of quality. Found it here: http://tufflights.com/Item.asp?ItemID=76 Free shipping / no tax (outside of FL)...pulls only 8amps and is made specifically for the marine environment. Can't wait to use it - no more half - assed spotlights failing at just the wrong time - Couldn't find anything that touches this product for the price - they make a few sizes - make sure you look at the "ML" (Marine Light) versions... Good Luck! Dave
