  1. Here's my take on the "one big hole" vs. multiple smaller holes question. I recently installed a pair of Aqualights, 50w Xenon. My transom is solid glass (no wood), but I believe the "one big hole" is a better option. After cutting the hole-very slightly oversize- thorougly coat the inside edge of the exposed wood (or glass) with West System epoxy and let cure. This way, should the sealant (5200 or 4200) ever fail even a tiny bit, the moisture still cannot get to the wood core. You can't do this by just using self-tapping screws with the surface mount models- if the sealant fails, moisture is going to wick into the exposed wood core.
  2. I replaced my cockpit side panels and coaming with black and white Seaboard. Some pretty large pieces, some were nearly 6' long- and I have had a problem with the black ones expanding/contracting (prob from sun/heating)- snapped a couple of corners and literally bent the SS screw shanks. When it wants to move- like freezing water- it's gonna do it no matter what. The larger the piece, the more susceptible it is. Shouldn't be a problem on a dash application. I also try to leave the countersunk screw heads just a tad loose in the hole, rather than really torquing it down.
  3. Ditto what Menzies said. The canvas on my SR leaked everywhere when I bought it. The 303 Fabric Guard is amazing stuff- I'm getting ready to re-do now, but it's been nearly two years and its only starting to leak again. Buy the gallon size (you can get it direct on 303's website), I use a pump-up bug sprayer to apply.
  4. I'd like to do it as well (Sea Ray 390) but my family hates long boat rides... Far as I know, there's no place south of Marco/Goodland for you to stop and it's a straight shot from there to the Keys. Have fun and let us know how it goes.
  5. What I don't understand is her comment that they could wipe out entire reefs. True, they have few natural predators. But that holds true as well in the tropical Pacific where they're native. So why the population explosion, and why don't they wipe out the reefs off the Phillipines?
  6. I've got a twin diesel IB, no kill switches. The ignition circuits are powered through two toggle type circuit breakers next to to the key switches. Is there a way to rig this so that it "pushes" the breakers to the off position?
