  1. I think that depends on the angle of your transom. The Yamaha F250 on my Robalo has a decent bit of negative trim.
  2. I don't understand how the fuel would eat my lines if I have an 08 boat, you would think they would have prepared for ethanol by then. I guess I could have gotten a load of awful gas with double or triple the ethanol in it. After I had my problem I ran the tank almost dry, and changed out all the filters. Of course no problems since then but I worry. My mechanic said Yamaha might question me if another fuel pump goes out and not cover the expense so I don't want to pay that bill. I read Hotspots tips page but my F250 is a good bit different and even with the manual I got worried I'd break something trying to take everything apart. Lots of screws, bolt and tiny hoses in there.
  3. My boat was brand new in November 2008 along with the motor. I ran the first forty hours and had the pump go out last spring. Mechanic didn't have any idea what caused it. He theorized ethanol or some additive problem but was just some guess work.
  4. Just drained the VST tank on my 2008 Yamaha F250 and found about twenty small black things about the size of a grain of sand. I was going to take the whole VST tank apart but chickened out on that project. Does anyone think I should have my mechanic check out the VST and it's filters. The reason I'm paranoid is that I had the high pressure pump go out at forty hours because the screen filter on the high pressure pump was clogged and burned up the pump. I'm now at 84 hours with no problems for the last forty.
  5. I like what you did. The problem I have is that I have a bimini top that I always have open when we snorkle. I either need a very long pole to extend the flag from my gunnel rod holders up higher than the bimini, or I need a way to attach a dive flag to my bimini top.
  6. I like these and have used them for years with success. The trick I think is to keep it slow, they don't like to go faster than 4-5 mph and track and dive good.
  7. I looked over the VST instructions you did and it is a great instruction guide. I just did my water pump using a printed copy of your instructions and found that project to be fairly straightforward. The VST project however seems like lots of bolts, wires, housings and zip ties to remove and replace. How hard would you rate that project? How long did it take you to do it? I like doing things for myself but don't want to get in over my head since I'm a novice outboard do it yourselfer.
  8. You can post on robaloboatowners.com forum with some specific model and year information and you can get some better feedback perhaps.
  9. I picked up a large galvanized barrel from a farm store that I use now to run my motor in just to be on the safe side. I think the trick on the oil filter on the F250 is to remove the engine mounted fuel filter which I did not do this time. That makes it easier to pull the filter straight out. But everything is a learning exercise.
  10. DO NOT RUN YOUR F250 ON THE HOSE!!!! It will burn up your water pump, ask me how I know. The problem is the front mounted water inlet sucks in too much air and even with good dual feed muffs the water pump will overheat. I just had to change mine out and it got hot enough to melt the water pump housing which I also had to replace. I had the shop do my ten hour service because I had a couple minor warranty repairs to get taken care of but I had the oil changed, gear oil changed, and a general inspection of the engine like the book says. Since I had to change the water pump because of my fault, I just went ahead and changed the oil, plugs and gear oil again at 75 hours. By the way, changing the oil filter on an F250 can be messy.
  11. I'd go with the 40 and mount it where it is completely unobstructed. I have the 25 which sits on the dash under my glass windshield and it doesn't work very good. If I'm in anything but totally calm seas I constantly lose hook-up.
  12. I just got finished last night changing out the water pump on my Yamaha F250 and found the instruction thread very helpful even thought the 250 is a little different. I ended up also changing out the water pump housing, lower unit gear oil, oil change, and spark plug change. Again, the F250 is a bit different than the F200 but Hotspots thread was a great place to start. With all the parts included I spent about $250 to do all this work which was a great savings over taking it to the shop. The question I have is for the F250 if you use a vacum pump, does it suck more of the oil out of the oil filter because that was the only thing that was difficult (and messy).
  13. On my boat the vent is next to the water fill and it just squirts out the vent when it's full.
  14. I use a different brand of the same product all the time for high power VHF systems when we install undercover antennas on unmarked law enforcement vehicles and have never had a problem. We fully test each installation and haven't seen any marked reduction in output power or reception quality while using them. Based on price, I imagine that the products are of the same quality (if not the exact same with different branding). I would recommend them.
  15. Got it done. Upon advice I lightly sanded down the shaft with some 220 grit sandpaper just enought to smooth everything else and remove some grime. Worked like a charm.
  16. Can't do that because the key is inside the impeller when it's in place. The key is what makes sure the impeller spins with the shaft.
  17. I'm putting a new water pump on my 2008 Yamaha F250 and I can't get the impeller to slide down much past the top of the key. I've got it going the right way but it just won't budge and I don't want to damage it. Any tricks of the trade for this?
  18. Looks great, don't you just love starboard. I bet it will outlast the metal.
  19. If you are just talking wax it seems alot of people like collonite but remember that polishes are different animals altogether. I've been using a polish on my boat since new and have been happier than any of the waxes that I used on my last two boats. I'm currently using a Starbrite Polish with PTEF or something like that and it's easy to apply and seems to last a decent amount of time. I found this last bottle on clearance at Walmart and got an outstanding price on it.
  20. Had some real spring fever a few weeks ago but couldn't get out on the water due to work. Just got a box of parts to do some engine maintenance and will spend sunday changing oil and water pump. Hope to get out on the water Monday though and can't wait.
  21. Which hotel are those picture taken from. I know I stayed there years ago on a quick trip to Miami. Loved the view.
