  2. Winter Weather

    We were snowed in but now after this ice storm we have been on the generator for two days with not much end in sight. They brought in power crews from as far as Mount Airey, trees down roads blocked.

    A friend of mine that bought one of my old ford trucks was on the news an oak tree about 20" fell on the truck bed and bent it in half.........

    It has been quite a week.

    I'm from Florida, but the way things are down there now as far as the boats being stolen and all I don't miss it. I do miss the fishing and the water though.

    I don't mind the 3-5" snows I can keep moving ok in those and it melts fast, when it gets this deep it's just to much to go up and down in. Takes chains to get up here and then you need them so you can slow down ... going downhill, I have a hard switchback to the right that you cannot see in those pic's. Keeps it interesting sometimes.

    Well almost un-snowed in, made in down almost to the main road bunch of cars stuck in and out and sort of on the road, couple of guy's with a truck down there pushing and pulling. I came back up here and will go the rest of the way in the morning:

    There was a lot of people without power. I have a little 6'000 watt generator and I keep the boat full so I have 65-70 gallons in it. I have been up here long enough that I keep around 5-6 cords of wood so when it gets bad we are good for awhile. I like the wood heat more, I think it feels better.

    Cool. My dad has a place in Hayesville (or however you spell it) and is up there this weekend. Hope he is getting some snow.

    Started yesterday and by this morning we had about 10-12". Thought some of might like to see these pic's.

    Not sure about Hayesville, but if he's up here in the mountains he has some. We were pretty lucky did not lose power. They had on the news this morning that 60% + had lost power in Buncombe Cty.

  13. Electric Brakes for for boat trailer

    Hi all,

    I have the boat trailer on blocks for the winter(boat on top) and I am going to replace the brakes on the trailer. I like the control of electric brakes instead of surge which is on the trailer now. My work trailer has electric on both axles and I like being able to use the trailer instead of the truck brakes to slow down.

    So my question is electric for the boat trailer brakes. What happens with the magnets in the saltwater that throw the brakes or just dunking them in the saltwater?

    My son & I go back and forth a lot to the coast so the brakes get used.

    My parents had a little Mom & Pop motel on the gulf coast ( Florida ) and I traded some fishing stuff and and some money I'd saved from selling fish and got a Oldsmobile a 58 I think it was. It had the flat fins with two little round tailights on each side.

    The fun part was is that it was ragtop but the material was all torn so we just tore the rest of it off and when it rained we would pull the frame up and keep on going. Guess you could imagine the looks we got, but at that time we had it made.

  16. Kill switch cilp for 02 Johnson 150

    Hi All,

    I wanted to put this up because there must be somebody with a Johnson like myself. I "smashed" my kill clip with my buffer, had no replacement. Ordered a "kwik-Tect" with six keys for mutiple motors, it will not work with the Johnson's or at least mine . Quite a search but CROWLEY MARINE .COM

    e-mailed me back with the correct part number OEM stuff and it works.

    So the part number is # P/N 176288.

    They took the time to help me for a small part and I appreciate that. I also have learned that you need to have two kill clips on board.

    Also do not give me the buffer O)

  17. Kill switch clip replacement

    Johnson and Evinrude have used the same safety switch clip on their products for the last 13 years. Part number 176288 for $12.66 is the one that fits onto the keyswitch and physically turns the ignition to OFF when it is pulled.Are you telling us that every dealer you contacted did not know what a "kill switch" lanyard was for one of their products?

    That is the part number that Crowley marine gave me which I ordered.I sent out at least 25 e-mails to dealers when I was doing the google thing and only    two     dealers replied.

    The other dealer that replied was Angler marine in NC and they said they did not have the part and did not give me a part number. I was and still am surprised how many did not reply, maybe because it is a small part and not much $$.

    Thanks, did you go with a seperate kill switch instead of using the original.

    I might have found one Crowley Marine returned one of my e-mails and they gave me a part number which I ordered, so when it gets here and if it works I will post the link in case somebody else here is as dangerous with a buffer as I am. :)

    I am suprised though, I sent at least 25 e-mails to dealers and only two replied.

    West Marine has one with 6 different clips on the lanyard.

    That is the one I bought and it does not fit, well it will push on but as soon as you turn the key it pop's off, I held it while starting the motor and it will pop off on it's own. it might fit Yammy's or whatever but does not work on Johnson's. That is why I am hoping for a OEM part.

    Right now the only for us to go fishing would be for me to defeat the switch which I can do but with my son and I it would be ______ .

  23. Kill switch clip replacement

    Hi All,I have a 02 Johnson 150 and while waxing the console my MAD BUFFER caught the Lanyard for my kill switch while spinning at a constant 1600 rpm, it broke the clip into small pieces and in the process cut all four of my first knuckles and the base of middle finger. Quite a sight to see with me trying to turn off the buffer, my son calmly got the first aid kit and handed me about 20 band-aids with a smile or smirk I should say (he's13).

    Problem is I cannot find a replacement, I bought one of those kick-tecs that are SUPPOSED to fit all switches and on the Johnson it pop's off as soon as you turn the key. I have googled for three days now and e-mailed some Johnson dealers and I cannot find a OEM part it is a binnacle mount so the clip sildes under the key.

    Would any of you know where I can find one?? It is looking my I might have to disconnect it , but I don't like that idea at all.

    Any help would be appreciated,

  24. Bias vs Radial tires

    I will find someplace around here that I can look at the Maxxis tires , I never heard of them. I went to Loadstars after my Marathon experience and the radials on the boat are doing fine , but the tires on the work trailer (bias) are going fast, they are all wearing evenly though, but I think I won't get 7'000 miles out of them the way they are going right now.
