  1. CAROLINA SALTWATER ANGLERS ALLIANCE WHY This Alliance is needed so that we as Recreational Fishermen have some political clout. We need to be able to address the issues that directly affect us. As we all know the Recreational Fisherman is the first one to be affected by new regulations. The Commercial interests have all the say in what happens. The Carolina Recreational Fisherman has a far greater economic impact than the Commercial Interests. WHO It is up to all established Fishing Clubs to stand up and be heard. There is power in numbers. We need a seat at the table, up until now only Commercial Interests have spoken. The decisions are made to quiet these interests. These decisions usually have an adverse on us. HOW We can gain the recognition we need and deserve by banding together and push for equality when new regulations are in their infant stages. In most cases we are informed after the fact and must live with the new regulations. We need to be involved in the decision making process. Every club needs to have representation on this Alliance. The Board would need to have periodic meetings as set forth by The Alliance Representatives. Meetings could be held in rotating locations to accommodate everyone. It is recommended that each club have two representatives on this Alliance. WHEN This project needs to be put into motion ASAP. Any delay will further hinder the future of our recreational fishing. We need a meeting of the Club Reps. to write a mission statement, elect officers and list priorities and any other business we will need to start The Alliance in the work that is sorely needed. 3. Holden Beach Fishing Report from Stand 'N Down Charters 5/23/09 Surprise, Surprise, Surprise The old adage of calm seas never made a skillful sailor certainly applied to Captain Logan of Standing Down Charters, Holden Beach NC on Saturday’s trip out to the Gulf Stream. With an east wind blowing up 6 ft head seas stacked atop of each other, the Stand ‘N Down II was able to make about 26 kts toward the 100/400 for some Mahi action. Within 8 miles of the destination Capt Logan called for the Black Bart Lures to be put out, hoping that would start the day off right with a Wahoo. Within 10 minutes, the far back line went off with that ole familiar sound as crew members were certain they would have our first Hoo of the morning. Much to the crews surprise the fish on the business end of the Black Bart was King Mackerel in the mid 20 pound range. After arriving at the 100/400 the bite was on! It was steady bite for nearly 2 hours with gaffer size Mahi showing up in groves. All the Mahi was catch on Pirate Plugs( From Capt Bob at South Chatham Tackle). That wishful Wahoo bite finally arrived about noon. About 10 minutes into the fight a Hoo weighing around 30 pounds was tucked away nicely in the fish box. Wahoo was catch on Pirate Plugs( From Capt Bob at South Chatham Tackle) The Mahi bite continued on until mid afternoon. The great surprise catch of the day did not come until Capt. Logan suggested to the crew they try their hand with some Blue Water Candy Roscoe Jigs. What a great call by Captain Logan for this lead to the catch of the day, a 22 pound beautiful African Pompano boated by Ronnie Ensminger. The African Pompano was caught on a Blue Water Candy Roscoe Jig! Now that’s just about as good as it can get. Needless to say it was a great day on the water despite the less than favorable sea conditions and a good time was had by all aboard the Stand ‘N Down II.
  4. Knock Knock….. Woo’s there!!!! Man! Was it on fire or what Tuesday’s trip to the Gulf Stream provided a Heart racing, drag screaming, action packed steady bite thought the day aboard the Stand ‘N Down II with Captain Keith Logan of Stand ‘N Down Charters at Holden Beach NC…. The morning began at the Blackjack Hole when a small Blackfin hit the long line at 7:50 a.m. followed by a healthy AJ around 60 pounds that came face to face with the business end of a Owenr 9/0 hook. Then…. the ultimate thrill captured the crew as a Wahoo in the mid fifties hit a large Ballyhoo being pulled behind a purple and black skirt on the long line off the outrigger. This Hoomanaged to smoke about 500 yards off of a Shimano 50 before Captain Logan could order the lines cleared and make a trun on the fish…. Within just a few minutes of this Hoo busting up the party another Wahoo, this one in the mid-thirties, smoked the reel on the far back line before ending up in the fisk box. A coule nice Mahi showed up to be boated along with two more Blackfins and a King Mackerel. The day would not been complete without a few healthy Black Bass jigged up to add to the table fare already on ice. A great time was had by all and the weather was perfect. 4/04/09 Quick report From Stand N Down Charters out of Holden Beach NC - Headed to the Tower to jig up some bait (King Candy) then we head to the Southwest of the tower to do some King fishing and Bottom fish. When we got there we put out a King Candy and it was on before it was ten feet from the boat. Watch the King come up and get follow by two more Kings behind the one that had the bait. Landed that king and a few more. Them it was time to Bottom fish! Broke out the Shimano Lucanus jig and drop it down and make two turns BAM! A 16″ Black Sea Bass. Drop it down again and made two turns BAM! A 15″ Black Sea Bass. Drop it down again and BAM! A Triggerfish. Nice day to be on the water. We end up with Kings, Black Sea Bass, Triggerfish, Beeliners,White Grunts, Sliver Snapper, White Porgy, Jolt Head Porgy and Bonito for the day. I’ll give more report on Monday, I have 3/4 day Charter on Sunday. On Friday April the 17 2009 I had the privilege of taking a family from West Virginia on a 1/2 day venture in search of Black Sea Bass. The sea was bumpy so we headed out about 10 miles to start the day. On the ride out we kept our eyes open for Bonita but did not see any action. The water temperature was 59 until we were about 10 miles out and began seeing 60 degree water. Upon arrival at the Ledge we marked good bottom and dropped our lines. We were immediately rewarded with some sea bass, two at a time! Several fish were caught but most were undersized. Then move about a mile offshore and dropped some rigs to the bottom and immediately pulled up two keeper Sea Bass. For the next couple of hours we caught several nice Sea Bass 12″ to 15″ range. As it was nearing the end of our day we made a couple of stops on the way in without much luck. Most of the bass caught in less than 60′ of water were undersized. All in all a great day of fishing. Stay tuned as things pick up. On Saturday April the 18 2009 I had the privilege of taking a family from Lake Norman NC on a 1/2 day venture in search of Black Sea Bass. The sea was beautiful so we headed out about 15 miles to start the day. On the ride out we kept our eyes open for Spanish Mackerel but did not see any action. The water temperature was 59 until we were about 10 miles out and began seeing 60 degree water. Upon arrival at the Ledge we marked good bottom and dropped our lines. We were immediately rewarded with some sea bass that were 12″! For the next couple of hours we caught several nice Sea Bass 12″ to 14″ range. 100 or so Sea Bass were caught but most were undersized. As it was nearing the end of our day we made a couple of stops on the way in without much luck most in the 10″ to 11 3/4″ range. Most of the bass caught in less than 70′ of water were undersized. All in all a awesome day of fishing on the Stand ‘N Down II out of Holden Beach North Carolina! April 24th 2009 Friday Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Fishing Report. We fished with friends Johnny Jones and Gene Norris at the Blackjack Hole where we had several Wahoo knock downs. The Mahi bite was good for we boated four total and three of the four were gaffers. We found one unlucky King Mackerel and quite a few Black Bass. All in all it was a good day spent on the Stream and the ride back to the hill was smooth. April 25th 2009 Saturday Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Fishing Report. It was a day with a small crew with partners Layne Flowe and Ronnie Ensminger aboard the Stand ‘N Down II. We got to the dock around 4:00 a.m. thinking we had a smooth ride out to the Stream because NOAA forecast is always right.Yeah right.Nearly three hours later we finally made it to The Steeples and begin our futile search for warm water. Once our spread was out we picked up a 15lb False Albacore off the outrigger short line. After picking up a second False Albacore we moved inshore about two miles where we found some 70+ degree water. We barely got the long lines out before BAM! a gaffer Mahi hit a ballyhoo being pulled behind a blue/green Draggin Eye skirt. After that it was on with a steady Mahi bite for nearly two hours that resulted in a box full of Mahi. We did have a Wahoo knock down but it was the Hoos day and not ours so he swam on to be caught another day. Once the bite slowed, out came the Trevala jigging rods. You talk about the feeling that the ride is about to come off the tracks that best describes what its like to have a 30+ lb AJ on the business end of a Bluewater Candy Roscoe Jig as you try to get him from the oceans floor at 300 feet. We ended the day by jigging up some 12-15 inch black bass, and a couple Silver Snapper after stopping by one of our favorite 90 ft holes the ride in. It was a great day and great time had by all. April 26th 2009 Sunday Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Fishing Report. We had the honor of taking two soldiers fishing for a half-day bottom fishing trip on Sunday, one from the Army stationed at Fort Bragg and the other from the Air Force and stationed at Pope Air Force Base. We made our way to the 15 Mile Rock where they caught their limit on Black Bass. These were pretty hump back green heads and certainly made these fine young soldiers happy to catch. It was a great day and we look forward to serving the ones who protect our great country again. April 27th 2009 Monday Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Fishing Report. We fished the Stream on Monday and aboard were Todd Lockamy and his wife Gerri. Todd and Gerri were the runners-up in the Fraternal Order of Police raffle held in May of 2008 in Charlotte. The first place prize was 10k in cash and the second place prize was a full day charter with Stand 'N Down Charters. We are sorry they didn't win the 10k but we are very happy they took the second place prize for a great time was had. We started out trolling at the Blackjack Hole and the water so cold and green. So we picked up and head for the Steeples and found 75 degree and picked up four gaffer Mahi. The Mahi hit a Ballyhoo being pulled behind a pink/white Ilander. Two Wahoo managed to break off before being boated but the excitement was still there nevertheless. Seen a White Marlin around but would not take the bait! Then off to do some jigging. The Bluewater Candy Roscoe Jig was the source of excitement for the Lockamy's for they were able to catch and release several AJs. Then to 90 feet of water to get some Black Sea Bass. End up with our limit of hump back green heads. Everyone had a great time and we look forward to providing another charter trip for the runner-up of the 2009 Fraternal Order of Police 10k Raffle. April 29 2009 Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Full day Bottom Fishing Make up Charter.
